Project managers have to complete a project that follows the plan whilst reporting to senior managers. Other forms of project managers include project officer, business change managers and project coordinators. Day-to-day responsibilities include following processes that were made by the Project Management Institute (PMI), initiating projects and carrying out planning.

It is unlikely to get into project management as a new graduate as work experience and training is needed before progressions, so starting off as assistant project manager is more likely. A degree isn’t necessary for project management but studying towards a foundation degree, HND or degree in business or project management will put you ahead of others, as well as give you the practical knowledge about the commercial aspects of projects. Chances of being hired are increased with the PRINCE2 (Projects IN Controlled Environments) qualification. It is a de facto project management standard. It provides the skills to successfully manage projects as it allows candidates to control resources and risks, leading to fewer mistakes.
