In support of our overall strategic direction, QBE’s recently created Technology and Operations (T&O) organisation (c. USD $800m cost base) is beginning a significant transformation journey. Within Technology, this includes modernisation of its applications, infrastructure and operating model across the globe; the full set of initiatives is expected to be delivered over a 2-3 year time period and to cost in excess of USD $130m. In addition, we are looking to identify opportunities to increase capability and drive organizational efficiency and optimization across the global T&O function and the wider organization it supports.
The Senior Strategic Finance Business Partner for the Group Head of T&O will serve as a member of the Global T&O leadership team driving the finance dimensions of our strategy and also as a member of the Global T&O Finance leadership team. The role will regularly present to the senior leadership team as well as from time-to-time Group Executive Committee members and be responsible for the finance dimensions of materials prepared for the Group Board and the Operations and Technology sub-committee.
They will also be responsible for oversight of reporting on the IT modernisation Program. This includes analysis which links the Company’s strategic plan to the program / project plan, developing key insights to support effective decision making by the program leadership to enable continued program success.
Given the scale, strategic significance and impact of the T&O function, related functions and strategic programs, the role requires excellent skills in developing executive briefing packs and messaging for senior stakeholders including the T&O leadership team, Group CEO, CFO and Group Board, and would suit a high energy individual with experience in a Consulting organisation or on other similar transformations, with a background in financial planning and analysis .
Your responsibilities for this role may include, but are not limited to:
Developing strategic levers to optimize c. $800m T&O spend and adjacent functions across the Group where appropriate
Ensure deployment of capital through this portfolio is optimized, appropriately monitored and tracked and remains aligned to Group strategic and financial plans
Oversee regular replanning of costs and benefits for IT modernisation program
Delivering high quality and timely monthly, quarterly, business plan and other (as necessary) financial information, analysis and recommendations for program leads, the CFO and Global head of Transformation ensuring that all reporting deadlines are achieved
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including Group Executives, O&T and Group Finance Leadership, auditors, financial institutions, and professional advisers
Be adaptable to the changing needs of customers to ensure that information provided is relevant to their current business needs
Be seen as a primary point of contact on all relevant areas by key customers to meet their needs and further develop their understanding of the reporting outputs
Drive effective decision making by overseeing analysis of financial information, forecasting business, industry and economic conditions and presenting implications and innovative solutions to senior management
Identify and develop reporting and process improvement initiatives in partnership with business leads and management teams to both improve information provided to key stakeholders and make processes more efficient
Manage virtual team to ensure that people and processes are aligned with business needs and fit for purpose
Manage, motivate, develop and focus the virtual team to ensure the required standards of performance and support continuing development, including leading others to develop a culture that underpins our QBE DNA
Promote a culture of high performance, and strong insurance, business and accounting knowledge
You will need to be able to display you have the following qualifications and experience:
Chartered Accountant (ideally) with supporting relevant skills and experience in a Finance environment, IT Finance would be desirable
Experience of working in Senior Finance roles focusing on both finance and strategic initiatives, ideally with a combination of corporate finance and consulting background in developing effective communication and reports to CxO stakeholders
Strong financial acumen and intellectual curiosity to enable a detailed understanding of QBE structure, strategy, and operations
An awareness of events (financial, economic and industry related) outside QBE in order to add greater value to the financial analysis process
Strong Accounting skills
Knowledge of the financial services and Insurance industry desirable
