Who’ll you’ll be working with:
Our Data Scientists utilise machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies to help QBE select and price risk, detect fraudulent claims, identify target opportunities, develop new products, and make operational processes more efficient.
The European Operations ‘Pricing and Data Science’ team sits within the Underwriting division. The team consists of 11 experienced data scientists: and 15 pricing actuaries and pricing managers. Additionally, we collaborate closely with Data Scientists in claims, and the internal application development team who provide Software Engineering, Data Engineering, and DevOps support.
The Opportunity:
The Data Scientist will blend traditional actuarial techniques with data science and machine learning expertise to develop industry leading pricing models. The path is focused on the practical application of data science techniques within the Pricing domain.
Your responsibilities for this role may include, but are not limited to :
Work in close partnership with the Underwriting and Pricing teams to add value to the business using Data Science techniques and modern technologies.
Implementation of Data Science workflows: Discovery / problem definition, Data Acquisition and Processing, Model Build and Tuning, Performance Validation, Results Communication.
Development of high-quality, compliant Data Science solutions and services.
Develop strong relationships with underwriting teams in order to understand business needs.
Collaborate and learn from the wider team through code review.
Collaborate with the IT Applications Engineering team to ensure that models / Services are deployable and maintainable in production.
Develop and maintain strong technical Data Science skills, learn from the team, and share knowledge and expertise within the team.
You will need to be able to display you have the following qualifications and experience:
Data Scientists with a specific interest / experience in Insurance and Pricing.
Interest / Aptitude for developing strong programming skills in Python.
Strong skills /aptitude in Python programming – in particular use of the core scientific programming stack: Pandas, Matplotlib, Scikit learn.
Knowledge of GIT, Dash, GCP would be useful.
An understanding of good data visualisation principles.
