Role Summary

The Tony Blair Institute is seeking a world class, dynamic communicator to articulate and drive home our mission to help political leaders of governments around the world to make positive change happen in their societies.

This will be done through delivering exceptional strategic communications across all platforms, traditional media, social, digital and by taking our unique thought leadership together with our practical experience of getting things done, to a broad, global audience.

The ideal candidate will combine expertise in strategic communications and engagement together with a deep understanding and experience of politics and government to position TBI as a leader in shaping public discourse and driving change at the highest levels of power. This is an opportunity for a strategic thinker and hands-on leader to help us broaden our influence, both in traditional markets and new arenas, by leveraging compelling narratives and sharp political engagement strategies and helping to shape and create demand for what TBI has to offer.

Key Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in strategic communications , with a track record of driving influence through powerful narratives across global markets.
  • Proven experience in political and government communications and political engagement , with a deep understanding of the geopolitical landscape and experience at building relationships at the highest levels.
  • A strategic thinker capable of developing comprehensive plans that align with both organizational goals and the broader political climate.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across corporate and political spheres , integrating both into a cohesive strategy.
  • Experience in building and maintaining key stakeholder relationships , particularly with policy makers, political leaders, government bodies, journalists and media outlets.
  • Exceptional writing and content development skills , with experience in producing high-impact, digital-first compelling and creative communications to land ideas and influence policy debates.
  • Ability to navigate crisis management situations with diplomacy, confidence, and strategic foresight.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Be an active member of the TBI Executive Leadership Team, building strong, collaborative relationships across TBI and actively championing TBI’s values

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership : Develop and execute a high-level global communications strategy that spans both corporate and political spheres, ensuring consistency and impact across all TBI’s efforts. Provide advice to TBI leadership on effective communications and influencing strategies. Lead and inspire a global strategic communications and engagement team.
  • Stakeholder Engagement : Oversee TBI’s political engagement efforts by crafting campaign-style strategies that resonate with political leaders, policy makers, stakeholders including current and future donors, corporate partners and the public. Build influence across multiple markets by positioning TBI at the forefront of global policy conversations with an emphasis on the power of 21st Century technology, most notably AI, to revolutionise traditional approaches to policy. Build and maintain relationships with key political figures, government bodies, corporate partners, international organizations, journalists, media outlets, and thought leaders to increase TBI’s influence.
  • Influence policy debates and Reputation Management : Create a media and engagement strategy that reflects who we are, strengthening TBI’s brand and reputation by ensuring our policy ideas and messaging drives impact across traditional and digital media channels, political forums, and international networks. Act as a key advisor during critical situations, developing proactive strategies for managing issues that may affect TBI’s reputation or standing.
  • Expansion through communication and marketing : Expand the reach of our communications and engagement, ensuring it is tailored for influence across a broader global stage.  Support the continuous drive for income across all streams through effective marketing campaigns.
  • Content Development : Oversee the creation of high-impact, digital-first communications that drive TBI’s messaging and thought leadership.

  • Experience working in or with government bodies or international organisations, at the highest level pf political leadership .
  • A strong network in political and media circles, both domestically in the UK and internationally.
  • Prior experience in global communications across multiple markets.
