Do you have experience of providing care for women at home? Would you like to be involved in an exciting team providing continuity of care to women who choose to birth within the hospital setting and women planning a home birth? We are looking for an experienced band 6 midwife willing to work in all areas of maternity, to provide continuity of care for an identified number of women, and for whom you will be the named midwife. If you are interested we need your input now to continue to develop a model that works for women and works for midwives. A Cochrane review shows that women who receive continuity of midwifery care provided through team or caseload midwifery models have better outcomes than women who receive standard care, along with improved experience, in both low and mixed risk populations, Sandall, J., et al. "Midwife-led continuity models versus other models of care for childbearing women." (2013). You will be part of a small team of midwives caring for women who have been identified as having specific needs who would benefit from continuity of carer and women who are planning a homebirth. The Poppie Team is well established at Lewisham Hospital, having previously recruited and provided continuity of carer to women at increased risk of preterm birth, as part of the Poppie Randomised Control Trial, in collaboration with Professor Jane Sandall at King’s College, London. Our whole maternity service is exciting and innovative and due to this, we received a CQC rating of ‘Good’ in 2017 following on from winning the 2016 RCM award for Midwifery Service of the Year.
