What is WhiteHat?
We’re WhiteHat. A tech start up on a mission to create an outstanding alternative to university. We believe apprenticeships should be prioritised as a way of empowering people to build great careers, without first having to pursue 3 years of university education and absorb increasing levels of debt.
By delivering training in partnership with world-class content providers, through a combination of 1:1 coaching, a vibrant and supportive apprentice community and cutting-edge tech, we offer apprenticeships that genuinely rival the learning experience at elite universities.
On top of this, we’re powering a social experience for apprentices to rival relationships students build at university. Bringing apprentices together through events and matching them to mentors who will help them develop a fantastic network.
We raised a $16m Series A round last year, led by some of the world’s leading investors (including Index Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Salesforce Ventures). We were also listed as one of LinkedIn’s top startups and a Forbes ‘Ones to watch’ for 2020. We want to build an iconic company that becomes one of the great European businesses of our generation.
Is WhiteHat making a social impact ?
Research highlights the positive impact, both culturally and economically, of building a diverse workforce. Yet in industries such as tech, finance, media, and law, individuals from more disadvantaged backgrounds, such as those having a history of being on Free School Meals, are woefully underrepresented. Companies are aware that this needs to change, but by and large remain unsure of how to access talent from these groups. By encouraging employers in these sectors to take on apprentices, we can start to remedy the problem. WhiteHat is focused on developing future leaders; a generation of people taught via applied learning, with an emphasis on building skills alongside knowledge.
At WhiteHat we have reached out to students from London’s most deprived boroughs. 53% of our candidates come from ethnic minority backgrounds and 26% of our apprentices have a history of having free school meals.

What is WhiteHat’s vision for the future?
In the past 12 months, the business has grown three times over across all key metrics, including revenues and numbers of employees. This year we are expanding our geographical horizon from London to the rest of the UK, opening our first northern hub in Leeds. As a business, we want to see 35% of all school leavers across the UK choose to do an apprenticeship by 2030. As well as focusing on maximising our outreach in the UK we have exciting plans to expand further out into the US and beyond so we can give all people no matter where they are the alternative route to University that they need.
What is the role of a Data Coach at WhiteHat?
We are looking for a Data Coach to help deliver our 14-18 months data programme, working with both career starters and career builders to develop the next generation of diverse leaders in Data and help close the digital skills gap that exists.
As a Data Coach, you’ll be getting stuck into delivering to your own cohort of apprentices, ensuring they develop into highly successful, data-literate professionals, whilst working with the data coaching team at WhiteHat to help iterate and further build the data fellowship programme.
Your role will be a mixture of small group workshops and bootcamps plus one to one sessions, and supporting apprentices across incredibly exciting businesses to become the next generation of data leaders.
Our data coaching team is an incredible mix of industry experts, teachers and academics. We have Data Scientists who’ve worked at Microsoft, Doctors and actual Scientists.
What does the programme I would be teaching look like?
Great question! You will be delivering a BCS Level 4 in Data Analysis qualification. The topics you will teach will progress through the programme from starting with the data analytics fundamentals such as Excel, SQL and visualisations like Tableau to teaching more advanced data topics such as Big Data, Natural Language Processing, Python and R programming.
