The biggest cycling event to ever take place in the world, the inaugural UCI Cycling World Championships will be held in Glasgow and Scotland in 2023, combining 13 existing World Championships for the first time ever. A new era is dawning, and we are seeking the right people for three new, exciting roles; Director of Sport, Director of Operations and Director of Commercial, Marketing and Communications. Candidates should be able to demonstrate senior level experience in similar roles and in-depth knowledge of the relevant work areas. In addition, we are looking for people with a passion for leadership, collaboration, and negotiation. All three senior positions will be required to manage key strategic partnerships, devise an implement plans for their areas of responsibility and ensure the event meets is delivery and policy objectives. Above all we need people with the skills, knowledge and determination to deliver a superb event and use cycling to create significant impact for Glasgow and Scotland. Director of Operations Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Operations will lead on all operational aspects of the event including developing operational delivery strategies, budget, implementation and innovation. Please note, HR support for 2023 UCI CWC Ltd. including recruitment activity is provided by VisitScotland Human Resources Team Qualifications In order to be considered for the Director of Operations role, we ask that you can demonstrate in CV and Covering Letter the following: Experience • Track record of success in a senior role in a major sport event environment. • Experience of fulfilling a senior role in a multi-sport/venue major sports event and having a full understanding of the operational complexity of the industry. • Experience of resilience planning including counter-terrorism planning. • Experience of budget setting, financial management and performance reporting at a senior management level. • Experience of working with Local and National Government, International Sport Federations and National Governing Bodies. • Experience of managing, leading and motivating a large team in a high-pressure project environment. • Experience of developing and implementing collaborative frameworks within a major sport event environment and leading a team within such a framework. • Demonstrated and strong contract management and negotiation skills. • Experience of using project management tools and software. • Experience of working with UCI and /or on Major Cycling events. Knowledge • An understanding of the Scottish Public Sector and public sector procurement. • A knowledge of the sport of cycling. • Ability to take an overarching view of a programme and coordinate across several departments, aligning operational requirements to the needs of the programme. • Understanding of setting, monitoring and reviewing targets and KPIs. • A knowledge of cultural events and festivals. • An understanding of UK health and safety requirements, legislation and licencing in major events. • Specific operational knowledge and experience in one or more of the Functional Areas that this role will be responsible for. Skills • Excellent management and communication skills. • Ability to make clear and effective decisions under operational pressure. • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and to be creative in problem solving. • Excellent presentation skills, report writing skills and option design skills. • Ability to make key operational decisions in-line with delegated authority. • A proven ability to communicate and work in partnership with multiple internal and external partners and stakeholders at all levels. • Ability to inspire team members and drive achievement.
