The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) is the estate expert for Defence, supporting the armed forces to enable military capability by planning, building, maintaining, and servicing infrastructure.

Our responsibilities include:

- Plan and deliver major capital projects and lifecycle refurbishment
- Provide utilities services
- Manage soft facilities management (i.e. cleaning and catering)
- Provide a safe place to train
- Allocate Service Families Accommodation
- Procure and manage routine maintenance and reactive repair
- Provide a central register of asset information to advise infrastructure planning
- Act as steward of the Defence estate

**Job description**The Challenge**

The Environmental Planning Team (EPT), part of the Sustainability and Environmental Planning Team are part of DIO Technical Services. DIO Technical Services includes a wide range of technical specialisms, providing technical advice and support to the maintenanceand development of the MOD estate in the UK and overseas.

This is a varied role working across the diverse MOD estate, with duties and responsibilities changing as MOD/DIO requirements emerge, change and progress.

**Responsibilities**Main Responsibilities**
Work will fall into 4 broad categories: plan or programme level work, project level work, policy and guidance and team management. The proportion of time required to be spent in each category will depend on the progress of MOD initiatives, requirements andpriorities.

**Plan or programme level work**
The Environmental Planner will engage at strategic level with DIO/MOD programme teams. Duties may include, as required:

- Advise Provision of high level environmental and sustainability advice and support e.g. on SEA, EIA and MOD/DIO/Government policy requirements.
- Act as environmental focal point for programmes or sub-programmes to facilitate and coordinate inputs from DIO/MOD specialists.
- Assist with procurement and management of consultancy services.

**Project level work**
The Environmental Planner will engage with DIO/MOD project management teams. Duties may include, as required:

- Provision of environmental and sustainability advice and support. Primarily focusing on EIA and related environmental and consenting matters.
- Assist with procurement and management of consultancy services.
- Where capacity allows prepare and submit EIA documents (e.g. EIA screening requests).

**Policy and Guidance**:

- Contribute to reviews and drafting of MOD/DIO policy and guidance documents.

**Team management**
Work as a collaborative and supportive team member to deliver MOD/DIO requirements. At full strength EPT currently has only 3 team members and mutual support to share workloads, discuss issues, share knowledge and experience etc. is essential to deal with peaksand troughs in team/individual workloads and address project requirements.

**Reporting**
The Environmental Planner will report to the Senior Environmental Planner.

**Travel requirements**
This is an office-based post with some site visits. Occasional travel to various MOD locations, some of which may be remote or inaccessible and impractical to reach by public transport will be required: a full UK driving licence is required.
