This role will be accountable for the delivery of Employee Relations case management and advisory services to a subset of the Sainsbury's group (single geographic region encompassing Sainsbury's, Sainsbury's Argos and Sainsbury's Bank covering all divisions and business units represented within that geography whether Store, Store Support Centre or Distribution). The role exists to deliver an appropriately balanced case management advisory service that reflects the need to manage risk, whilst maintaining commercial and business value responsibilities and align to our values.The role will be accountable for delivering expert advisory services on the cases that are of most significant cultural, risk and legal importance to our business. What you need to do Act as the named point of contact for line managers and HR teams across the specified geography (multiple business units) to provide specialist employee relations case management advisory and support services in complex, high risk or high profile cases, or where a case requires direct intervention (as opposed to through the first line telephone advisory service) Identify cases that require support either through direct contact from line managers, or where they are routed from the first line ER Advisory Service team (in-house or outsourced) and follow through to resolution, tracking advice given at all times in the ER Case Management system Determine priority cases, making decisions on the appropriate way in which to handle a situation on a case by case basis Demonstrate exemplary judgement, ensuring balanced advice that manages risk but drives end results that are right commercially and / or appropriate to our colleague values Follow through to conclusion on any cases escalated from RightLine or Eagle Eye Coach line managers for capability improvement in the management of employee relations cases helping to develop line manager expertise specifically in managing disciplinary, fair treatment, capability and performance related issues through to appeal. Work with the L&D team to provide input to pro-active learning interventions that improve knowledge and skills for line managers in handling such issues Work in partnership with the OH Partners to support high profile, high risk or complex cases of capability or attendance when escalated by case managers Where appropriate lead on appeal hearings, settlement discussions or provide mediation services to drive case resolution Support the Employment Law team with claims as required Hold high standards of case confidentiality and ensure that confidentiality is a clearly understood element of all business relationships between the team and those they advise. Utilise the ER Case Management system expertly. Where cases are concluded, support line managers with the processing of colleague changes to conclusion i.e. work with HR Operations teams for associated administration in a dismissal/re-instatement, or working with talent teams to find positions for reinstatements or demotions Escalate any advisory case that requires review, additional insights or approval of non-standard application of policy or procedure in line with the risk appetite of the business to the Lead Case Manager as necessary Provide advisory services to the relevant HR Change teams in your geography to ensure that where business change impacts colleagues advice is available to minimise risk, and ensure change success on all projects Maintain your own personal development ensuring up to date and relevant expert knowledge and skills in your field What you need to know Credible expertise in all aspects of HR specifically employee relations, employment law, occupational health, immigration and rights to work Expert understanding and grasp of how to operate within an environment of multiple HR policies and procedures Mediation skills and techniques How you will succeed Case advice is consistently delivered for your business area and achieves the broader objectives of managing risk, whilst balancing commercial responsibilities and ensures colleague values are respected Employment litigation (through tribunal claims or Civil Penalty notices) are minimised through excellent case support Policy and procedures are adhered to, and any advice given is consistent and does not drive confusion or mixed messages for line managers or colleagues Case confidentiality is maintained at all times Caseload and demand is prioritised in order to ensure ongoing ability to deliver within agreed SLAs High risk, high profile or complex cases get escalated appropriately through the team and appropriate responses to resolve such cases are always approved Input to case reviews, PIRs and feedback sessions is provided to ensure that services are continuously under review and improved Line manager and HR team capability is supported and opportunities to develop are identified and followed up Our benefits In addition to the all- important competitive salary, pension & bonus offering, we totally get that life outside work is important to us all.
