We promote investment in projects and assets necessary for a rapid transition to a low carbon and climate resilient economy. Our main work streams are green bond standards and certification, data and market analysis, policy and market development, communications and advocacy. Climate Bonds is a fast growing, dynamic NGO driven by a big mission. You will be working within an organisation that is leading the development of innovative international climate finance solutions. The Role We are looking for an exceptional candidate to head our globally recognised Climate Bond Certification Scheme. As a key member of the management team, you will have the important role of upholding the integrity of the Climate Bonds Standard through a rigorous Certification programme. Certification under the science-based Climate Bonds Standard gives confidence to the market that “greenwashing” is not taking place, and as such is an extremely powerful tool in the achievement of our mission. The Certification team coordinates a global network of verifiers, ensuring the quality of their work and their adherence to the Standard and relevant Sector Criteria. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader, with expertise in the financial markets, climate science and audit and/ or verification processes. He/ she will be process-oriented and have deep technical knowledge, which he/ she will share not just within the Climate Bonds team, but also with key external stakeholders, such as issuers and verifiers. Being passionate in the fight against climate change is a key prerequisite, as well as the ability to express this commitment effectively to all partners and stakeholders. Key responsibilities: Uphold and protect the integrity of the Climate Bonds Standard Oversee the management of the Climate Bonds Standard and Certification Scheme Report effectively to the Climate Bonds Standards Board to enable them to maintain a robust oversight regime on the management of the Certification Scheme Provide and advise internal and external stakeholders such as verifiers, potential and existing issuers and other Climate Bonds teams on the interpretation of the Climate Bonds Standard and the Sector Criteria Provide external stakeholders such as verifiers, underwriters and investors with information on the latest developments in the green bond market Communicate and develop the strategic vision for the Certification Scheme and for the Climate Bonds Standard Build and nurture relationships with other teams within Climate Bonds Initiative to support the effective management of the Climate Bonds Standard Support, manage and provide leadership to the Certification team Build collaborative and strategic relationships with other market groups such as ISO, the EU TEG, the Green Bond Principles ExCom Support Climate Bond Initiative Country Teams in the development of local green bond markets so as to establish Certification as best practice Promote the Certification Scheme externally in events, training, webinars, conferences Qualifications and Experience: Minimum 10 years’ management experience Deep understanding of climate science and how climate change is affecting ecosystems, supply chains and economies around the world Significant experience in audit, labelling, standard setting and/ or certification schemes Knowledge of the capital markets and its main stakeholders (underwriters, issuers, investors) Knowledge of verification processes and auditing procedures Process-oriented and attention to detail Collaborative predisposition and ability to create synergies with other teams Confidence and drive to implement the mission of the Certification Team Undergraduate degree in Finance, Climate Sciences, Sustainable Finance or equivalent Excellent communication skills in English with experience in public speaking Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint Masters Degree in Finance, Climate Science or Sustainable Finance Previous experience with ISAE 3000 Previous experience of working as a verifier or external auditor Climate Bonds Initiative is a registered charity in England and Wales (no. 1154413) The Climate Bonds Initiative provides information resources like this page as a public good.
