We have a fantastic opportunity and seeking to recruit an experienced Head of Financial Accounting to effectively and proactively lead, manage and motivate the Financial Accounting team within Finance Services ensuring that there is a culture of high performance, strong engagement and a commitment to continual improvement. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis in return for a competitive salary of £80,000 + per annum. About the Head of Financial Accounting role: The Peabody Group is responsible for 66,000 homes in London and the South East. Most of our 133,000 residents live in London, predominantly in the inner boroughs such as Islington, Southwark and Hackney, which have diverse and growing populations. Our portfolio, however, is spread across 29 of the capital’s boroughs. Outside of London, we have a significant number of homes in Essex. This includes many sheltered and supported properties which sit within our subsidiary, Peabody South East. In May 2019 we welcomed Town and Country Housing (TCH) into our Group as a subsidiary. Joining our Group will accelerate its growth and delivery of new affordable homes. It also extends Peabody’s geographical reach into Kent and Sussex. Responsibilities of our Head of Financial Accounting will include: - Effectively and proactively lead, manage and motivate the Financial Accounting team within Finance Services ensuring that there is a culture of high performance, strong engagement and a commitment to continual improvement. - Work collaboratively with the Head of Financial Control to ensure that the best use is made of pooled resources to achieve both roles’ objectives.  - Manage the preparation of statutory financial reporting for the Group, and for each of it’s entities (currently excluding TCH and its subsidiaries), including necessary planning, especially for new activities and entities. - In consultation with Finance Directors and other Finance Heads of Service, work to improve the department’s systems and procedures, both IT and non IT based. - Manage the year-end process, coordinating as necessary across the Finance directorate to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of statutory accounts.  - Manage the external audit process. - Prepare the annual Judgment Paper for external auditors, and liaise with them as necessary. - Support the Head of Group FP&A in the preparation of relevant regulatory returns. - Work in harmony with the wider Finance directorate to ensure the effective operational delivery of the Group’s strategic financial objectives.    - Uphold and promote the core principles of the Finance directorate: keeping our promises, listening carefully, learning continually, holding ourselves to account. What we’re looking for in our Head of Financial Accounting: - Qualified CCAB Accountant with significant post qualification experience - Experience of day to day management of a team of auditors delivering the external audit of organisations of comparable size and complexity to Peabody - Strong, up-to-date technical knowledge of the Companies Act and accounting standards, and ideally Housing SORP, Charities SORP, Accounting Direction for Private Registered Providers of Social Housing - Strong understanding of intercompany accounting and consolidated reporting - Extensive knowledge of accounting software (SunSystems desired) - Knowledge of the social housing sector regulatory framework - Excellent communication skills; proven record of preparing and delivering persuasive, high quality, written and verbal reports and presentations within the organisation up to Executive and committee level and externally - Effective networking, negotiation and influencing and stakeholder management skills Closing date: 2nd December 2020 If you feel have the skills and experience to become our Head of Financial Accounting, please click ‘apply’ now to be directed to our careers page and complete your application.
