Our client are recruiting for an experienced innovation leader for their Technology Team, who provide innovation support across their global Business Area at the cutting edge of new technology. Based in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, the successful candidate will lead a team of 11 subject matter experts in the area of Electronics, Software and Motors. We are looking for someone with a passion for new and emerging technologies, strong commercial experience and the ability to network across the organisation and outside, to keep ahead of new technology in the market and drive forward innovation.

Experience in the areas of rotating machinery, electronics, motors and software is desirable, although you don't need to be a subject matter expert in all of these areas. The function of this role is to lead a team of experts to provide innovation support across the global business area, at the R&D, proof of concept stage of the development cycle.

This role would suit someone who is excited about tech, and wanting to make a significant contribution, in a highly influential role. This role includes attending board meetings, and requires the skill to influence and negotiate others in the business to try new innovations, and move forward with new ideas. Also to network across the business area, and organise seminars and best practice sessions.

The requirements of the role are below:

Degree level or higher qualification in an electronics or software engineering discipline
Substantial experience of R&D management and product development in a high technology environment.
Essential attributes include:
A proven ability to manage technology/innovation projects, delivering on time and to specification, with the resilience to overcome technical challenges
Fostering innovation to improve product design and performance
Business and commercial awareness to identify technology opportunities, and ability to make balanced proposals for the technology plan.
Able to build, develop, inspire, and direct a cohesive team
Analytical approach with a proven ability to apply scientific principles
Influencing, communication, presentation and negotiating skills at the highest levels, both internally and externally. Able to achieve credibility and command respect.
Ideally the applicant will already have a comprehensive knowledge of software and electronics in scientific, engineering and industrial applications, markets and technologies.
Awareness of how value can be created from data from smart and connected products.
