At Lucite International, part of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation we are seeking an International Project Director to join a team committed to excellence, continuous improvement and driving sustainable business results. You will be responsible for the overall design and construction of a critical and high-profile project from 2021-2025.

Please note this role will be based in Europe for the first 9-12 months, followed by the remaining term in the United States.

About the role

Together with the Strategic Projects Director and the Technology Director, you will be a key member of the Project Management team and you will have specific responsibility for managing the EPC contract and leading the strategy and delivery of all engineering, procurement, construction and pre-commissioning aspects of the project. Specifically, you will:

  • Lead the contractor selection and contract placement activities for Phase I (pre-sanction) and Phase II (post-sanction) activities. Ensure that the contract strategy and contracts are aligned with the needs of the business/stakeholders, and that the contractors are adequately resourced to deliver the project requirements
  • Approve and implement the project execution strategy from commencement of FEL3 to beneficial operation, including the transition from Europe to the US.
  • Establish the company’s project management team including HSE, QA/QC, project control, functional and project engineering, procurement, construction supervision and pre-commissioning necessary to meet the project objectives.
  • Manage the implementation of the 3rd party Technology Licenses and associated agreements.
  • Develop the cost estimate and schedules to support the final investment decision. Ensure that these are underpinned by sufficient engineering design and overall project definition to give the right level of assurance.
  • Establish the project control and reporting processes to meet the needs of the stakeholders.
  • Manage all key interfaces with internal and external support resources to the project including HR, finance, legal, procurement and IT,
  • Ensure that the engineering design complies with all regulatory and permitting requirements, the requirements of the process licensors, and the company’s HSE and functional engineering standards.

About you:

  • Degree educated with a BSc in Chemical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering (or similar)
  • Significant experience in managing full lifecycle projects in a major high hazard chemical plant engineering management (Projects, Maintenance, Procurement, Engineering design)
  • Relevant Project Management Certification as well as Chartered Engineer/Professional Engineer status preferred
  • Previous leadership experience in major projects of over US$600m in a similar industry and environment
