The Medical Research Council Toxicology Unit is an internationally renowned institution focussed on the delivery of field-changing mechanistic insights into toxicology and disease.
We are looking to appoint an IT Specialist to be based at the newly refurbished Gleeson Building, University of Cambridge, to provide IT support for our research and administrative functions. You will have responsibility for 1st and 2nd line support, providing advice in specific areas of IT technology and for the implementation of IT service improvements under the guidance of the IT Manager.
Areas of responsibility will include:
- Systems & users Administration
- Hardware failure & software installation/configuration
- Website maintenance
- Troubleshooting & fixing network connectivity problems
- AV support
- Desktop and server Support (Mac, Windows, and Linux)
- Helpdesk: providing technical assistance & support to staff & students
Educated to degree/level 6 vocational qualification, or equivalent level experience, you will have experience in a similar IT role with evidence of working at a tactical or operational level to deliver technology change. You will have expert knowledge of one of more IT domains: infrastructure (expertise in networks or desktop or servers); programming: (Python and Perl), together with a strong knowledge of Linux & MySQL. You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and a genuine desire for continuous knowledge acquisition.
This is an open-ended position with MRC funding available up to March 2023 in the first instance.
