A small but growing creative development agency, mostly based in London, is seeking a Junior Developer to join their team. They are currently a remote-first company with team members working in other time zones too. They value long term relationships with both their team as well as their clients.
The company specialises in system integrations and complex automations. Practically, that includes building websites, e-commerce shops and apps. Their clients are diverse and include NESTA, Saffron, the UCL, Screen Yorkshire or the Architects Registration Board.
They appreciate a good dose of common sense and hire people from a variety of backgrounds and take active steps to provide equal opportunities.
Who you are and what they're looking for:
For them, your desire to learn is more important than your experience. But, ideally, you already have practical (1 year+) experience working in an agency or similar environment on various web or web app projects. Your background doesn't matter as long as you have a great interest in coding and solving problems. Whether you prefer php, python, node or .net, whether it's all about responsive front end tinkering, or you love UX prototypes, or maybe enjoy backend structure and data manipulation - show them your code!
The team is all about making stuff happen and never about tools or languages. You have read up on good coding practices and workflows, have an idea about clean coding style, and even make a habit of documenting your code. Version control systems and automated task runners will be your day to day tools. You've looked up proper html structure and know when to use and when . You are not afraid to ask the 'stupid' questions, discuss technical challenges and maybe even teach them a trick or two.
You'll be working with a friendly and varied bunch of enthusiastic makers and doers. Working times are flexible, but productivity isn't… This is an all-hands-on-deck fast paced environment where commitment, a good sense of humour is appreciated.
You're one of the team. It doesn't matter if you have to head off early to pick up your kid or take care of other stuff - the team will have your back. You do actually care about the work you do and their clients. You talk to them and take care that their tasks get delivered. If you see that anything isn't right, you speak up, you step up, you sort things out. If any of the team see that you need help, they will step up and lend a hand. In return you do the same for them. It doesn't matter if you're not an expert at anything yet. You don't just follow instructions, you think about them. But you're pragmatic enough to sometimes just 'do what's necessary' to get things done. You're logical and 'get' how things are put together.
If you're interested in learning something new - let them know and they'll do their best to put you on a course or relevant project. If you want to progress in your career, they can make a plan.
They know it will be hard to get on with a junior role fully remotely, but they'll try their best to support you.
