This role will report into the Head of Manufacturing Engineering. This role is based at our offices in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. As a Manufacturing Engineer - CAD/CAM Specialist your key skills and experience should ideally include: BSc (hons) or MSc in Mechanical Engineering with CAD/CAM simulation. 3D M-CAD solid modelling and topology optimisation expertise. Charted engineer or working towards a charted engineering. Design for manufacturing and design for assembly process using digital twin. Experience in FE modelling on composite material is an advantage. CAD/CAM machining simulation training / certification Machining/ tooling optimisation or machining simulation. Six sigma green belt certification. Ability to work with different functions and suppliers to understand their preferences and requirements so that an optimum cost model can be developed. There will be trades (i.e. compromises) but they need to be justified. Ability to work with models and designs that are not fully complete, and the ability to define definition preferences. Core Competencies: 3D CAD sold modelling experience with NX M-CAD over 3 years. CAD/CAM machining simulation and machining knowledge NX CAD/CAM machining optimisation and CNC machining expertise. Topology optimisation and 3D model for manufacturing. Manufacturing simulation experience. Good working knowledge in CNC milling and machining process. Drawing configuration control and management experience Design experience in SMED, "Poko Yoko" tooling and design for manufacturing and assembly. Working knowledge of FE modelling Influencing and communication skills Embracing and delivering local changes Problem Solving & Creativity Managing Projects As a Manufacturing Engineer - CAD/CAM Specialist your key responsibilities will include: Gate keeper for all manufacturing models and engineering drawings used by operations and external manufactures. Maintain mechanical 3D solid modelling capability and provide training and mentoring other MEs. Support the ME tooling data base with all fixtures and tooling used by the company. Develop a scan data collection and 3D solid modelling of all tools and fixtures. Machining optimisation CAD/CAM machining and turning operations to produce solid models and optimise machining process. Hands on machining to produce piece parts and prototypes. Develop costing models for machining and casting operations. Develop the manufacturing design and development on a digital twin using NX-CAD/CAM. Implement digital design and testing road map. Introduce best practice PLM and MES system into operations. Manufacturing process selection and create control plans with ZDP, define process Cp/Cpks for all mechanical component manufacturing process. Design tooling, fixtures and assembly models and drawings for internal and external manufacturing. Hands on fixture / tooling manufacturing and testing. Produce 3D solid models for model based manufacturing work instructions. Process simulation of manufacturing process and optimisation of manufacturing process. Manage a smooth transition of NPI into production. Owning the unit cost models for newly designed parts for the Operations function. Capturing any changes to the cost model in terms of both Unit Costs and Operational Assumptions - for example design changes or volume changes - so that traceability can be understood easily during the design process. Supporting NPI programs with the DFMA, tolerance, design optimisation and value engineering support. Produce 3D solid models and assembly models with DFMA. Model based manufacturing and topological optimisation of all 3D solid models. Support automation team with tooling/fixture design and manufacturing. Assist with hardware integration with the automation. Working with our supply chain (internal and external) to review designs in progress so that the best cost model decision can be made based on the data provided - for example balancing higher tooling costs with lower unit against lower tooling costs with higher unit costs for different volume scenarios. Providing break-points for the above scenarios and feeding any capital requirements into the departmental / project budgets. Capturing operational best practice / preferences and developing cost models to allow Design Group to 'trade' different attributes - for example cost vs weight. Helping to develop a low-complexity: high-variety product mix based on standard family templates. Where possible, highlighting and driving new processes / methods developed for new parts back into our legacy products.
