Founded in 2011, GBT is delivering on its goal to transform the treatment and care of sickle cell disease (SCD), a lifelong, devastating inherited blood disorder. The company has introduced Oxbryta® (voxelotor), the first FDA-approved treatment that directly inhibits sickle hemoglobin polymerization, an underlying cause of SCD. GBT is also advancing its pipeline program in SCD with inclacumab, a p-selectin inhibitor in development to address pain crises associated with the disease. To learn more, please visit and follow the company on Twitter @GBT_news.Position Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will participate in the strategic development and tactical execution of plans to engage scientific thought leaders and act as a conduit for providing accurate and updated clinical, scientific and medical information to Health Care Professionals and other members of the scientific community.  The MSL will provide non-promotional scientific, educational, and research support for the Global Blood Therapeutics (GBT) product portfolio, in particular for Voxelotor, for the treatment of sickle cell disease (SCD). The MSL will provide field-based medical support for GBT’s clinical research programs, registries and facilitation of the investigator sponsored trials process. The MSL will provide requested, clinical and scientific information to KOLs, HCP’s academia, payer, government organizations, community-based patient organizations and other members of the healthcare community in compliance with all relevant company policies.  This role reports to the Medical Director UK. It is field based but home location allowing easy access to the London HQ would be preferred.Essential Duties and Respons Expertise and Exchange with numerous stakeholdersConducts high level scientific and strategic interactions across the GBT portfolio with external thought leaders as well as internal GBT customersEnsures appropriate non-biased scientific exchange, develops sustainable relationships with HCPs and provides scientific support to HCPs on behalf of GBT and Medical Affairs in their geographic regionFosters opinion leaders by maintaining mutually productive relationships with HCPs & key decision makers across different types of healthcare organizations including clinical research, group purchasing organizations in the areas of medical education and healthcare systemsAttends & participates in medical/scientific meetings & conferences for the purpose of maintaining clinical/scientific expertise & providing strategic insights into emerging scientific data & healthcare trendsContributes to or leads Medical Affairs projects at cluster level, supports Market Access activities by providing scientific expertise for various stakeholdersMaintains cross-functional collaboration with internal & field teams to provide scientific expertise and functions as a scientific advisor with, Clinical Research, local MA Strategy, Commercial, etcMedical EducationResponsible for supporting medical education. Leads efforts across Medical Affairs to keep abreast of latest scientific, disease state, and healthcare landscape information and uses this information to provide value to both external and internal stakeholdersThe MSL has a deep understanding of the scientific trends and routinely synthesizes their scientific field insights and communicates to the appropriate affiliate and headquarter based colleaguesLeads development or communication of scientific data to diverse audiences including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other key stakeholdersExecutes scientific support for commercial functions of the organization including scientific support to health care professionals and training for speakers and Key Account Managers as neededClinicalSupports execution of clinical development programs with interactions with study teams and HCPs/researchersSupport country specific medical activities in SCD aligned to the European / country strategySite identification, site feasibility and physician/nurse education for both marketed products and the pipeline for company sponsored research Protocol development and study management in collaboration with clinical operations and clinical research teams for medical affairs sponsored studiesC with all obligations defined by local laws and regulations and GBT SOPsQuali advanced degree in life sciences (MD, PharmD, PhD or equivalent) is preferred with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an MSL, with 3 years in the field as an MSL or in a comparable roleHas an established and demonstrated track record of effective and influential oral presentations with the healthcare professionPreferred: experience in the hematological fieldEnglish language skills are required, other languages are a plusHas excellent leadership, management and negotiation skills.  The ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environmentAbility to influence and work effectively across functions and operate in a matrix environmentDemonstrated 3 year’s minimum of therapeutic research or substantive patient care experience is requiredLaunch experience preferredPrior experience in rare disease requiredAbility to travel 60-70%No relocation required (field-based) Fit with GBT to build strong relationships with co-workers of various backgrounds and expertiseAbility to function at a high level in a team setting whether leading the group or acting as an individual contributorValues-based leadership consistent with GBT's Core ValuesExcitement about the vision and mission of GBTFlexibilityIntegrityNOTE:  This position summary is not intended to be all-inclusive.
