The Payroll Processing Specialist is responsible for completing monthly domestic and expatriate payrolls, adhering to company policies and legislation. The role includes collation and processing of sensitive information and the goal is to ensure that employees receive accurate compensation in a timely manner. The role holder will be able to assist employees with queries to a complex level and deliver a customer focused service with an emphasis on quality.
Execute accurate payroll data to employees, HMRC and the business in a timely manner, in line with statutory reporting timelines and business requirements; Manage delivery of domestic and expatriate payrolls; Review treatment of social security for expatriates in line with country specific agreements; Resolve complex payroll queries; Complete manual payroll calculations; Maintain high level of data accuracy in Payroll system; Ensure all HMRC reporting deadlines are actioned accurately and on time; Provide reports to management for payroll approval purposes; Adhere to legislation requirements and company policies, ensuring that current knowledge in these areas is up to date; Work with end markets to ensure compensation data provided and collated is accurate and timely; Provide support to Global Business Services to resolve employee payroll related queries; Deliver payroll related information to third parties as required; Ensure all audit processes are followed in line with SOx compliance; Provide payroll information to Global tax provider for tax return purposes and resolve any questions that arise; Review Appendix 7A and 7B – NIC settlement returns as provided by Global Tax Provider, report any issues identified; Support the Payroll Processing Manager as required.
The Payroll Processing Specialist role is based in the UK HR Payroll team in Southampton, reporting to the UK Payroll Processing Manager. The UK Payroll team provides services across all BAT sites in the UK, including Global HQ.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Strong payroll knowledge in line with legislation; Good Payroll calculation skills; Excellent numeracy and literacy skills; Payroll Qualification preferred; Strong attention to detail; Experience in using computerized payroll software; Good communication skills with ability to explain complex payroll calculations; Good organizational skills, demonstrating ability to work to tight deadlines; Ensure sensitive data is kept confidential by exercising discretion in all aspects of role; Knowledge of Microsoft reporting tools (Excel and Word); Good understanding of expatriate payroll with modified payroll agreements would be advantageous; Experience in dealing with tax returns and NIC appendix agreements would be advantageous; Understanding of Pension and share related legislation would be beneficial; Good Team Player; Demonstrate initiative in identifying processes/systems that could be improved; Ability to work under pressure; Flexibility – busy periods may require longer working hours.
