Closing Date 24/01/2021 Birmingham 2022 is looking for an experienced arts producer to collaborate with artistic partners on the development of projects for the Games' arts festival. In addition to working closely with the culture team across programme commissioning, the postholder will focus on sector development activity for independent creatives and diverse-led arts organisations, and lead on programme alignment to draw existing/independently funded projects into the festival. The successful candidate will be an arts or heritage curator, programmer and/or line producer with an eye for detail and significant experience of delivering commissioned projects towards excellent artistic and social outcomes. They will be a creative thinker and understand the needs of artists and creative organisations, particularly reflecting on COVID 19 sector recovery. Some pre-existing knowledge of Birmingham and the West Midlands cultural sector will be expected. Responsibilities Draw on in-house skills and engage external agencies/consultants to produce a series of sector development initiatives for independent artists and diverse-led organisations. Work with dedicated commissioned partners to revise plans and budgets, ensuring artistic and social outcomes are maintained and changes communicated throughout relevant functional areas of the organising committee. Work closely with regional cultural organisations, especially West Midlands' Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisations and Major Partner Museums to produce the festival alignment programme. Work closely with the Senior Programme Manager to activate and process contracts and payment for commissioned and aligned projects. Create opportunities for less established artists and practitioners to be part of the festival and develop their practice. Through the festival, support the ambitions of the region's artists/organisations to guide strategic and legacy initiatives. Work with commissioned artists and organisations to support post-Games planning and development. Draw up production and live event schedules to fit into overall Games planning. Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team and creative delivery partners to facilitate the provision and creation of imagery, promotional copy and media assets for programme alignment. Ensure all crediting is aligned to the agreed branding framework for the Commonwealth Games Cultural Programme. Work in genuine partnership with the cultural sector and creative community of Birmingham and the West Midlands to deliver a Commonwealth Games that leaves the cultural ecology stronger. Skills & Experience Required Essential Significant relevant industry experience in a curatorial, programming or producing role in a venue, festival or other creative environment. Good knowledge and understanding of arts and cultural development initiatives, processes and programmes. Proven experience of working closely with arts and/or heritage practitioners to develop vision and achieve set goals. Strong practical working knowledge of Arts Council England's Creative Case for Diversity. Proven effectiveness in delivering high-profile creative commissions. Experience of working closely with Marketing and Communication departments to deliver audience development objectives. Experienced in budget management. Highly skilled at multi art-form programming, with strong creative connections across the arts/heritage sector. Exceptional project management and planning skills. Desirable Successful delivery of publicly funded arts or heritage projects of scale. Visual arts background. We will consider a secondment from an existing cultural organisation or local authority for this job role.
