KTN collaborates globally to create valuable international connections for innovators, and just as importantly, extending our activity beyond economic prosperityto also deliver sustainable societal and environmentalbenefit across the UK and beyond. This post is available within our AgriFood team, reporting to the Head of AgriFood on a fixed-term contract until 31 st March 2024. The purpose of this role is to lead the UK-Africa AgriFood Programme on dissemination and coordination involving a range of knowledge exchange activities, including disbursement and management of grant funding for up to 20 projects. This role will be based in the UK but with opportunities for engagement and travel to African states (in accordance with pandemic safety guidelines), particularly South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya. This post will be varied, and will require senior stakeholder management including with government, businesses and universities across the AgriFood sector. Context The GCRF AgriFood Africa Programme aims to realise sustainable management of the food production systems in Africa in a way that alleviates poverty, enhances economic prosperity and delivers improved wellbeing. Target long term outcomes of the programme include: Developing sustainable intensification of African agriculture Improving human health and diversity of diets and nutrition Impacting positively on rural income and food security Facilitating increased trade activity in agricultural products This £26m programme is being delivered through three core activities, led by Innovate UK in partnership with UKRI and DFID: 1) Technology Accelerator Programme 2) Skills Training Programme 3) Dissemination and Coordination Activities KTN lead on the Dissemination and Coordination Activities , including the development of knowledge exchange activities to support the wider programme. Be the project lead, leading the KTN activity related to dissemination and coordination in the UK-Africa AgriFood Programme, including ensuring strong governance and compliance Lead the delivery team to provide support to Innovate UK for the UK-Africa GCRF AgriFood Programme, and develop knowledge exchange activities establishing a collaborative bilateral AgriFood community in Africa and the UK; delivering pump-priming innovation awards to UK universities to support new innovative concepts; and extend the reach and impact of activity from this programme and complementary Agri-Tech Catalyst funded projects Maximise outcomes and impact, ensuring systems in place to track activity through to impact, and reporting to both KTN and external stakeholders Be the KTN stakeholder account manager for external bodies associated with the Programme, including Innovate UK and relevant in-country organisations, and taking the lead on key relationships with the sponsoring bodies and delivery partners. Financial management and control of the Programme, at both Programme level and in-year forecasts/budgets to support KTN financial planning. Drawing from across the KTN skill-set and deep expertise, you will be responsible for project team management, ensuring efficiencies of project delivery and in support of the wider AgriFood team in KTN, and liaising with colleagues in the wider KTN to maximise synergies with other Africa and aid related programmes. Identify new opportunities that support the specific project and any subsequent projects that may arise for AgriFood in Africa, and have an ongoing awareness and contribution to the AgriFood sector needs and capabilities to inform the project and the wider KTN AgriFood team. Contribute to the writing of articles and thought leadership pieces for newsletters and blogs of interest to our users, and actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work and support and raise awareness to organisational initiatives of our clients and supply partners on EDI. Requirements To meet our desired requirements for the role: Leadership experience in the AgriFood and/or International development sector Degree level qualification in biological science, agriculture or other relevant discipline, or equivalent experience in relevant field, or a post-graduate qualification Experience of leading complex projects in the AgriFood and/or International environment, and financial management of projects to deliver within budget Motivated, self-starter who is target/impacted orientated, and an excellent communicator in all forms and able to adapt to a variety of clients and influence. We are after an inclusive team leader, able to work across structures and levels to build a strong team spirit in the delivery of required outcomes and impact, and someone who is adaptable and flexible. A good understanding of commercial issues and a thorough understanding of innovation within the sector, including the needs and capabilities at a national level.
