The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role
Sussex and Surrey IT Department are recruiting a full-time Senior Desktop IT Technician primarily based at Surrey HQ, Guildford. The position will require travel both in Force and to our partner Forces where appropriate.

This is a second line support role to support the Forces' end point devices: desktops, laptops, body worn cameras, mobile phones, mobile data terminals, smart phones, printers, plotters and more. You will be the first point of escalation for the Technicians within the Team and be expected to have the knowledge to assist them. You will also be responsible for packaging, deploying and faulting applications through System Centre Configuration Manager and assisting in maintaining our environment.

We have a walk in IT Workshop at Surrey Headquarters that you will sometimes be required to cover.

This role will be offered as a secondment ending after two years.

BAU support - Managing SupportWorks queues: prioritising and resolving
Project work - Changing and Improving, IT and Business led
Site moves - Organising and assisting across the Force
Event support - Including occasional evening and weekend work
Hardware refresh - Setup, configuration and deployment
Escalation point for Desktop IT Technicians - Advanced problem solving
Windows 10 rollout - Enabler
System Centre Configuration Manager - Administration, use and maintenance
Windows patches and other software updates - Packaging, deploying and monitoring
Skills & Experience
It is essential that you are familiar with portable networked devices and associated operating systems, management systems, carriers and mobile services presented to, or installed on, portable devices.
It is essential that you understand local encryption, security and identity software, hardware, software and facilities used to make secure connections across untrusted networks including configuration and policy.
A familiarity with desktop hardware and peripherals is required, including operating systems, office applications and other specialist application software installed and operated from end-user devices. Candidates must understand network connectivity and the cabling between desktops and peripherals, and associated standards including client device management and security systems.
It is essential that you have had exposure to SCCM and its utilisation as a tool to support our estate.

Examples of the technologies we use are: Windows 7/10, Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) and other industry standard Mobile Device Manager solutions, Mobile identity devices (VPN), 3G/4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth standards and peripherals, Active Directory, GPS, smartcards and compact storage devices.
Desktop PC's and thin client hardware, printers and MFD's, external storage devices, scanners, bar code readers, approved client software such as MS Project, MS Visio and Adobe Acrobat, MS Office components, IE and other browsers, Anti-virus software, Client IP and networking configuration, USB standards, Microsoft SCCM.

You will need to have a clean driving license as you may need to drive Sussex Police fleet vehicles to work in our other locations. You will need to pass a Police Driving permit.

Applicants must display the ability to work independently with a professional approach. The ability to pay attention to detail is essential. Good written and verbal communication skills and organisational skills will be key for the successful candidate. Your customer care skills must be outstanding.
