Job Description JOB DETAILS Job Title: Senior Social Workers AMHP (Approved Mental Health Professional) Salary Range: Grade 10 £32,910 to £35,745 Work Location: Centenary House, Worthing, West Sussex (Required to travel countywide) Hours per week: 37 Contract type: Permanent Closing date: 30 October 2020 Join us - make a difference in our communities West Sussex Services are undergoing a period of transformation. This is an exciting time to join the County and be part of a new specialist Mental Health Social Work Service, that incorporates Older People's and Working Age Mental Health Social Work Teams and a new Countywide AMHP Service. We are building a centre of excellence and are keen to recruit passionate and committed individuals, who hold the same values that we do. This is a new role created as part of the modernising and organisational changes of mental health services in West Sussex. Working within a service where the emphasis is the delivery of a timely, responsive and legally compliant intervention, following requests for Mental Health Act assessment. Requests are received from a range of partnership agencies professionals, as well as members of the public. The ability to triage, risk assess and manage competing demands is a fundamental core requirement. The Hub will consist of a Team Manager and two Senior Social Worker AMHPs who work 9am-5pm and eight Social Worker AMHPs who work on a rolling rota, over a 24hr period. Shifts will typically be early, late and night. About You As a Senior Social Worker you must be able to work autonomously and have experience of delivering effective, efficient and high-quality social work interventions to promote positive change, independence and wellbeing when working with service users, carers and families. You will have good assessment skills including the ability to ensure regular review and risk management with a variety of individuals, carers or families. You will be able to work effectively under pressure, managing the competing demands of a busy service. You will be able to demonstrate robust and clinically sound triage skills using risk management and assessment models. To be successful in this role you must be resilient, reflective and resourceful and be able to work with limited managerial oversight. * To maintain and promote best practice, knowledge and skills for the provision of the AMHP service across the county. * To work as part of a pecialist team that provides complex advice and information to colleagues and other professionals delivering a 24hr statutory AMHP Service. * To work in partnership with wider Mental Health Services (both SPFT and WSCC), to enable early identification of individuals who may be deteriorating and plan appropriate interventions. * Prepare for, and work with individuals, families, carers, groups and communities to assess their needs and circumstances and evaluate, monitor progress and implement care packages. * To undertake assessment under the Mental Health Act and manage complex and diverse cases appropriately, including where appropriate making an application for admission to hospital. * To prepare and present reports for mental health reviews, tribunals in respect of services users who are subject to detention under the MHA 1983. * To liaise closely with acute in-patient wards to enable early identification of people who may need further assessment and detention. * To be responsible for maintaining accurate, comprehensive case records for interventions and to complete all paperwork in connection with MHA * To provide advice and/or training/supervision to junior colleagues regarding the appropriate management and care of adults with mental health needs.
