Role overview We have an opportunity for a Shift Manager to join the team at our RWTF facility in Wakefield. This is an exciting and challenging role in which you will manage operational activities on your shift, including taking responsibility for staff, safety, processes and planning. Using your staff management and leadership skills, you will ensure that operational activities are always carried out in a safe, efficient, compliant and timely manner. You will also be a key player in identifying and supporting improvements in efficiency and costs. The Role Manage the RWTF facility while on shift – MRF, pre-treatment (pre-AD process), steam plant, AD Ensure that operation of the facility is safe, efficient and compliant with all internal and external requirements An active involvement in initiatives to improve financial and operating performance to achieve profitability goals and revenue growth Support other business functions on site as required Responsibilities include: Control all operations and engineering activities in process areas, including issuing of permits to work and completing risk assessments Review KPI’s for the facility and adjust plans to ensure overall effectiveness and continued availability to accept waste from external sources Lead and develop a team of operators including identifying training needs, managing personal development reviews, disciplinaries and managing of absence Ensure that full service delivery complies with contractual commitments including service delivery plans, contract targets, client data and information and change protocols Develop a working relationship with the client which ensures that contract delivery is recognised, as well as nurturing a commercial relationship that is flexible, based on trust/respect and able to move forward even when agreement and alignment prove challenging Ownership of the Safety Health Environmental and Quality culture and behaviour  Ensures contract runs in compliance with internal and external safety / environmental / permit / planning processes and procedures, as well as any contract requirements Ensure the timely completion of actions by the management team, identified through internal and external audits Realise operational excellence targets, installing a results focused performance driven culture  Achieve productivity targets, ensuring cost effectiveness Ensure staff resource levels are adequate to support delivery of business requirements, whilst remaining within cost budgets Realise a constructive industrial relations climate within the contract and unions including harmonious social relationships within the company Drive a culture / mindset together with the management team that builds employee motivation and commitment and develop a contract team capable of over reaching the contract targets Experience, Skills & Qualifications Process operations qualification such as C&C Plant and Plant operations, or suitable experience A Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH managing safely In depth understanding of health, safety and environmental compliance  Experience in a similar level role with successful track record in managing teams  Experience in waste management is preferred, however other similar process driven industry experience will be considered Strong leadership and line management skills with a coaching style that gets the best out of people, balanced with an edge that is not over-tolerant of poor performance Ability to build and maintain strong, cohesive teams with high morale and outstanding output Proven track record of delivering process improvement and standardisation in complex B2B2C regulated service industry Exceptional attention to detail and good organisational skills and the ability to forward plan and have a proactive management approach High energy, inspirational leader that has high emotional intelligence and can quickly build rapport Demands high standards of themselves and others and is able to translate this into high quality, high pace output Computer literate Preferable Proven competency in managing steam raising boilers and associated equipment Engineering or process qualification A waste management qualification, such as COTC Hours 4 on / 4 off shift pattern (4 days, 4 off, 4 nights, 4 off) About Renewi Renewi PLC is a leading waste-to-product business ideally positioned to be part of the solution to some of the main environmental problems facing society today: reducing waste, avoiding pollution, and preventing the unnecessary use of finite natural resources.  The UK Services Division of Renewi PLC employs approximately 600 employees over 30 locations and collectively we handle more than 1.97 million tonnes of waste annually, achieving a 73% recycling and recovery rate.  As a Group, Renewi PLC employs approximately 6,500 employees over 162 locations in 6 countries in Europe.
