Arup's Advanced Digital Engineering group is a team of over 300 expertconsultants that brings together Arup's traditional engineering and designstrengths with advanced digital expertise in data, software development,analytics, and user-centred design.
We have an exciting vacancy in our Advanced Digital Engineering group'ssoftware team. We are seeking someone passionate about software development tojoin us in developing the Oasys Suite of software products (PRIMER, D3PLOT,T/HIS and REPORTER) that form part of the Oasys LS-DYNA Environmentsoftware. The software is currently used in the automotive, nuclear andcivil engineering community. One of its primary uses is the modelling andtesting of vehicle crashworthiness, but it is also used for other impactassessment scenarios in seismic, nuclear, geotechnical and structuralapplications. We would also like to develop the software for new markets suchas aerospace or product design.
This position offers software development and interaction with end users,both internal and external to Arup. The role also provides the opportunity tobe based in Arup's Solihull, London or Manchester offices however, a reasonableamount of time in the first year must be spent in either Solihull or Londondepending on which product / Product Manager you are working most closelywith.
The post-holder will work closely with the relevant Product Manager,taking responsibility for particular functions within the Oasys Suite ofsoftware products. They will be improving current functionality as well asdeveloping new features including industry-specific tools that help make theproducts appropriate for new markets, or for new applications such ascomputational fluid dynamics.
The post holder will also contribute to all elements of the softwarerelease cycle including prioritisation of new features, QA testing anddocumentation.
The role also includes customer support of the software products onwhich the post-holder will be working. This includes direct phone and emailcommunication with end-users, as well as client interaction at events.
As we broaden the application of our software into other industries, theproject may provide the opportunity for the post-holder to identify and developnew tools, features or software products.
The post-holder will report directly to the relevant Product Manager butwill be working alongside the wider development, administration and marketingteams on a day-to-day basis. There will also be regular communication with theProject Manager and the Project Director.
The role would suit an engineer who is interested in or has moved intothe software developer environment, or a mathematician, scientist or softwaredeveloper who is interested in the automotive industry or solving engineeringproblems.
Requirements and skills:
Essential Skills and Knowledge
- Agile software programming skills
- Logical approach to problem solving
- Ability to see a problem from an end user's prospective
- Practical application of mathematics e.g. vector geometry
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work well in a in a team and individually
- Good communication skills
- Degree (minimum 2:1) in computer science, engineering, mathematics,physics or similar discipline
Desirable Skills and Knowledge:
- Interest in / knowledge of computer aided engineering / finite elementsoftware
- Interest in / knowledge of OpenGL graphics, OpenMP etc.
