Job DescriptionThe Software Engineering Manager will lead a multi-disciplinary team to create solutions that deliver simple applications that respond to real user needs. They will be looking to you to lead on technical requirements, build high performing teams, mentor software engineers whilst fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation. Youwill be familiar with coding in Javascript and nodeJS, as well as creating cloud infrastructure as code using terraform. The Software Engineering Manager will create an environment that is autonomous working whilst delivering products that are part of a rebuild or in squads aligned to key business goals. The Software Manager will assist in the technical delivery of great software and will lead the technical direction for the team. The role will lead in Agile software delivery to champion best practices within the team and to provide continuous visibility of progress both internally and to external stakeholders. * Lead the scrum teams to provide technical support for small, medium and large engineering projects * Ensure the team understand and produce robust, clear, polished code using practices like Test-Driven Development (TDD) or Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) * Ensure there is a very clear understanding of the regulatory requirements set within the industry and ensures that the platform enables customers have access to tools that help them spend responsibly, working closely with the compliance function to ensure this is always front and centre of our customer proposition * Lead by example, and comfortable teaching best practices by showing people, not just telling people. * Experience improving software deliverables utilising engineering best practices such as, reusability & continuous integration * Participate in code reviews and develop new features and functionality for high transaction * Participate in period and sprint planning exercises that support the ongoing development of the Product road map, acting as an ambassador of possibility within the engineering function * Liaise with the Operational Marketing teams to ensure promotions and customer messages are clearly visible within the product * Design solutions that are modular, scalable and portable * Work to improve overall system architecture and design components accordingly * Investigate and develop performance improvements to the platform * Develop new solutions to resolve ongoing issues with the platform an communicate across the organisation * Extract and capture customer requirements within the product development cycle * Developing solutions that are modular, scalable and portable * Work to improve overall system architecture and design components to meet those goals * To liaise with Product Managers and Architects to ensure that all technical possibilities are explored and that our products achieve the best possible functionality * To work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams to deliver project requirements * To learn new technologies and to apply these to projects as applicable Qualifications and Educational Requirements * Educated to degree level in Engineering, Electronics, Mathematics, Operational Research, Computer Science, or other highly quantitative field (or equivalent experience). * You should understand agile ways of working and how to utilise them throughout a PDLC e.g. prototyping & testing. * Demonstrable talent coding in at least one major language (such as Javascript/PHP/Go) Specialist Skills and Experience Required * Demonstrable talent in writing and using algorithms and assessing time complexity and performance * Strong and demonstrable experience managing teams of highly technical staff - ideally managing through other managers of leads * Strong engineering pedigree acquired during a previous hands-on development role * Good managerial and leadership skills, able to motivate and lead personal development plans for employees as well as driving change and handling difficult situations both internally and externally * Design, build an iterate in commercial software development in the field of web applications, back-end and or cloud solution * To write, test and release quality Javascript code * Strong Skills in infrastructure as code - Terraform or Cloudformation * Substantial and demonstrable commercial experience in developing software * Experience in developing responsive web application is preferred * Ability to learn and be productive with new technologies quickly * Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken * A "can do" attitude and out-of-the-box thinking * Experience of informally coaching and leading less experienced team members * Ability to influence for a positive outcome * Challenges the status quo & looks for new and innovative ways of doing thin * To learn new technologies and to apply these to projects as applicable
