Allen Lane are working with the National Audit Office (NAO) in their search for an excellent Solution Architect to join on a 2 year fixed term contract (reviewed after 1 year). The NAO is the UK’s main public sector audit body. Independent of government, they have responsibility for auditing the accounts of various public sector bodies, examining the propriety of government spending, assessing risks to financial control and accountability, and reviewing the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of programmes, projects and activities. They report directly to Parliament, through the Committee of Public Accounts of the House of Commons which uses our reports as the basis of its own investigations. The NAO employ circa 800 staff, most of whom are qualified accountants, trainees or technicians. They work in one of two main areas, financial audit or value for money (VFM) audit. The principal responsibility of the Solution Architect is to join the Audit Transformation Programme (ATP) and support the team to deliver the programme’s objectives over the next 2 years. The postholder will play a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of an integrated solution involving multiple off-the-shelf products alongside development and configuration of existing technology platforms. As Solution Architect you will be responsible for: Designing innovative end-to-end solution designs, delivering against business strategy and requirements. Converting detail requirements and user journeys into appropriate solution architectures and designs for the NAO’s prime service line Assisting delivery teams to ensure alignment with overall solution and technical architecture Supporting the assessment of new product and solution decisions, including risk identification Ensuring solution designs align with existing digital plans and relevant industry, technology, and corporate policies (e.g. information security) Making sure solutions integrate with other systems and platforms in use as appropriate Ensuring appropriate documentation (including roadmaps) are in place to support the delivery and implementation of the solution, as well as future projects Supporting creation of architecture and solution design guidelines, and delivery of projects within those guidelines Working closely with other NAO Architects, ensuring NAO’s ongoing digital transformation remains at the forefront of the public sector digital development Applicants should have excellent communication skills for this role. You will be highly proficient in making and guiding decisions, developing strategy and making processes work. You will lead on turning business problems into solution design while understanding the whole context of your work across NAO. Experience needed for this role: Significant experience providing solution architecture services across the full project and/or programme lifecycle Experience involving complex, multi-supplier environments ensuring integration between 3rd party vendors and internally built applications Proven track record working with technical teams on design and implementation of innovative cloud solutions Good experience of analysis, diagnosing, designing, planning, executing and evaluating cloud solutions to time, cost and quality targets Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting stated quality objectives Experience as a solution architect in cloud solutions using NAO’s strategic platforms, Microsoft (365 and Azure) and Salesforce The ability to pick up new technologies and assess situations quickly Able to be the point of contact for stakeholders with the capability to manage expectations and facilitate across high risk and complexity or under constrained timescales Ability to create or tailor new ways of working and innovation, influence outcomes and gain buy-in for new initiatives Expertise working in/white teams using Agile methodologies and frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, Lean) Experience in engaging with teams using DevOps tooling, preferably Azure DevOps Our client is an inclusive employer and offers equal opportunities to all regardless of an individual’s age, disability, gender identity, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.
