Veterinary Laboratory Technician

Site specifics Our Failsworth Surgery is one of our larger locations; the surgery is busy and fast-paced. We’re recruiting for a specialist to help effectively restrain and run lab samples day-to-day, and to transfer animals from other local Animal Trust surgeries. Job Particulars Assisting vets and nurses with patient restraint and sampling Assisting vets and nurses with end of life consultations Correct handling and storage of samples Processing samples using internal lab machines Preparing and sending of samples to external lab partners Quality control, from collecting to reporting of sample Updating patient records Charging of lab work Drive an Animal Trust vehicle to various sites to collect or drop off animals who have had or require treatment, or items that need to be transferred across sites Core Skills We’re looking for our new Lab Tech to be experienced in their field as well as bringing with them a social heart and a refreshing attitude as we all work together to shape the future of veterinary care. Essential competencies for this role are; Previous experience running lab samples Experience effectively restraining pets Good customer service skills, including empathy Experience working in a veterinary clinic, especially with vets and vet nurses Hold a current, clean and valid driving licence D1unrestricted or a PCV Licence Be competent in the ability to carry out weekly vehicle checks and basic maintenance Report any vehicle defect, faults and accidents in line with the Company Policy, ensuring all relevant reports are completed and submitted within the required timeframe Support patients onto and off the Ambulance, ensuring they are securely restrained and safe and provide general support to them whilst onboard the ambulance.
