What Jobs?

What jobs are there in Sheffield?
Like most Northern cities, Sheffield grew as a steel giant during the Industrial Revolution. The city has moved away from manufacturing and now has a workforce compiled largely in the public sector like social workers, police officers, doctors, and teachers. Sheffield is the UK’s fifth largest city, constantly recruiting for customer service, sales, and administration staff. The city of Sheffield employs over 115,000 people in retail jobs.

As the birthplace of Def Leppard and Arctic Monkeys, Sheffield unsurprisingly has some of the country’s top entertainment venues. The green-city has many opportunities for music engineers, musicians, and lighting technicians. Along with a vivid music scene, BBC and ITV careers are easily accessible, with Salford being an hour away. With a growing economy, Sheffield is continuously on the lookout for a talented skilled and unskilled workforce.

What is it like living in Sheffield?
The diverse seven-hilled city has the highest ratio of trees to people in the whole of Europe - that’s 2.5 million trees in the city. It is also a short ride away from the Peak District, which is where some of England’s most stunning scenery is located. The average monthly rent in the city centre is around £500, which is 200 per cent less than in London. With Sheffield University honing in a gargantuan student population, Sheffield has ultimately become a city that never sleeps. However, the nightlife and shopping are easy to get away from as the local Botanical Gardens is a walk away, covering 19 acres of the city. The Winter Garden is also the largest glasshouses in the UK and the largest urban glasshouse in Europe.
