DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT EXCLUSIVE TO:

  • Review and negotiate all contractual documentation, including main contracts, sub-contracts, and scopes of work.
  • Identify and mitigate onerous terms to protect the organisation from unreasonable risks.
  • Lead negotiations on final accounts to secure appropriate payments and resolve any claims.
  • Maintain a clear log of contractual risks and communicate these throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Act as a primary contact for client-side commercial and legal discussions.
  • Monitor ongoing contractual performance and compliance, advising project teams as needed.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • Proven experience as a Contracts Manager, Commercial Manager, or Quantity Surveyor in the construction sector, ideally within fire safety or M&E.
  • Strong understanding of construction law and contract forms, including JCT and NEC.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex legal documents.
  • Confident communicator with excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and contract administration systems.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong commercial awareness and financial acumen.
  • Ability to self-manage workloads and prioritise effectively while working on multiple projects.
  • Excellent organisational skills and clear, concise communication abilities

About the company:

My client is a civil engineering Tier One main contractor who turn over in excess of 120M. They are part of a larger group of companies all within Civil Engineering. They are a multi disciplined company working within aviation, rail, highways, defence, ports and marine and power. Their clients include Network Rail, Crossrail, TFL, Docklands Light Railways, Ministry of Defence and their works cover flood alleviation schemes, public realm works, maintenance, sewage treatment works, earthworks, grounds works, platform extensions, new station buildings, bridges, footbridges, capital and minor works. Project values range from 25,000 up to 20M.

About the opportunity:

This Contracts Manager role is to initially be part of a long term framework at the port of Dover. These works are part of their defence division and include repair and maintenance works across the port. This included both emergency and planned maintenance works. You will be an experienced Contracts Manager who has experience of working with NEC contracts and long term frameworks. There will also be capital works up to the value of 3M including works on 3 lighthouses. Further works include a Thames Water framework so any water based experience would be ideal. You will be based at the Port of Dover for 3 days a week and additional works are throughout the South East so you must be willing to travel.

There is a team of 12 that will be reporting into you and they are looking to grow that team further over the coming months.

About the requirements:

You will ideally come from a Civil Engineering background and have a solid understanding of NEC contracts and long term frameworks. You will have a strong history within Civil Engineering and as this is a permanent opportunity, you must hold stability of employment, holding previous appointments for a minimum of 2 years.

About the benefits and rewards:

For this permanent opportunity, my client is targeting professionals looking to earn anywhere from 80,000 to 87,000 per annum however specific salary will be defined upon experience and suitability.

Furthermore, there will be a generous package on offer including a car allowance of 7020, 26 days annual leave, private family medical cover and 7% pension contribution.

Experience / Qualifications:
- Must have a successful track record of managing a portfolio of Asbestos Removals contracts and projects
- Experienced in handling regular client interactions
- Strong technical industry knowledge and experience
- Ideally will hold ARCA / UKATA training / qualifications as well as SSSTS / SMSTS
- Capable of managing teams of removal site staff
- Good level of literacy and numeracy skills
- Able to comfortably use IT software

The Role:
- Being responsible for the smooth delivery of non-notifiable asbestos removal projects within a successful company
- Monitoring overall progress on projects as well as individual employee performance
- Allocating works and planning time frames for projects
- Seeing projects from start to finish, ensuring timeframes are adhered to
- Producing competitive and thorough tenders for prospective works
- Attending sites to scope for works and conduct risk assessments prior to project commencement
- Creating quotations for works
- Being a key point of contact for clients, answering queries and providing support throughout the duration of projects
- Completing site-specific documents and keeping accurate logs of project progress
- Meeting with clients on site to discuss projects
- Maintaining and building positive working relationships with clients
- Working closely with senior members of staff to deliver on projects and track company service standards

Job description – Mechanical Contracts Manager 

An exciting opportunity to join our experienced team in a recently formed privately owned M&E Group bringing together in excess of 150+ years’ experience.

As such an opportunity is available for an experienced M&E Contracts Manager to join the team.

The Role

  • Responsibility for the project and contract management of mechanical projects to ensure they are delivered on time and within budget along with ensuring site safety and quality is maintained.
  • li>Working closely with the Electrical division to successfully deliver joint projects.
  • Supporting the production of mechanical and M&E tenders for both pre-designed and design & build projects along with project management of awarded contracts.
  • Report on ongoing project performance, highlighting at risk projects and providing solutions to help deliver project targets.
  • Evaluate opportunities and work with the SMT to identify strategic opportunities.
  • Leading the team of employed and sub contracted engineers including direct line management, performance and development of the team.
  • Be responsible for the management of labour resources on multiple sites to ensure project completion on time and within budget.
  • Leading and improving the health and safety and compliance processes including undertaking regular site safety inspections.
  • Negotiating preferential rates with suppliers to ensure best prices are always achieved.

Experience:

  • Recognised industry qualifications
  • Engineering/Installer background would be ideal
  • Proven track record in the Mechanical services industry.
  • Must have sound knowledge of all mechanical systems including commercial and domestic plumbing and heating, natural and LPG Gas
  • Up to date relevant knowledge of Building legislation, Gas Regulations, Water Regulations, H&S at Work Act
  • Experience in specialist gas, oil and catering gases would be beneficial but not essential

Skills and abilities:

  • IT proficient in all key Office products, including Excel and comfortable working in an office environment
  • High numeracy levels & commercial awareness a must alongside an eye for finer details
