If so, GSL Education are seeking a devoted and dedicated Disability Support Worker  to be part of our friendly and inclusive school community in Wareham . The School: The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide person-centred support to learners aged 16–25+ with a range of disabilities and Special Educational Needs, ensuring each student’s individual needs are met with dignity and respect.
  • Assist students in engaging with vocational and enterprise activities such as horticulture, agriculture, equine care, and animal handling, promoting participation and hands-on learning.
  • Support the development of life skills and independence , helping students build confidence in both educational and real-world tasks that prepare them for future employment or further training.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching and vocational staff to adapt learning activities and environments to ensure accessibility and inclusion for all learners.
  • Promote emotional well-being and encourage positive behaviour , providing consistent, empathetic support in both structured classroom and outdoor settings across the 350-acre campus.
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of students at all times , including during outdoor, physical, and animal-related activities, in line with safeguarding and health & safety guidelines.

Candidate Expectations:

  • A compassionate and patient approach to supporting young people and adults (16–25+) with disabilities and Special Educational Needs.
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in a rural environment across a 350-acre Dorset countryside site.
  • Experience or interest in vocational activities such as horticulture, agriculture, equine skills, or animal care, with an understanding of how these support learning and independence.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with students, families, and the multidisciplinary team supporting each learner.
  • Ability to adapt support to individual needs , promoting inclusion, independence, and personal development.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, health & safety, and best practices in disability support to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • A valid UK driving licence and a willingness to drive are essential for this role.
