Senior care Assistant – DAYS

Pay - £12.21 per hour

37.5 hours – alternating weekends

7:30am – 8pm shift times

GL1 area

General healthcare assistant duties in a Dementia based care setting to include; personal care, mobilising, assisting with meals, encouraging residents with homes activities, hourly checks and documenting residents care and actions throughout the shift.

Staff will be led by a team leader who will direct staff as to their responsibilities on shift and who staff will report to.

Staff must be able to work as part of a team but at times on their own using initiative when required.

Previous experience of a care setting, preferably with Dementia experience and NVQ 2 preferred but not essential as further training will be provided.

Main function of the job:

Main duties (not in any order of priority) As a member of the organization:

Development of practice in support services:

  1. Assist in the assessment of the effectiveness of support implementation and delivery
  2. Ensure your practice meets and maintains support standards. Work in cooperation with members of multi-disciplinary health teams to maximize opportunities for therapeutic support for the people we support.
  3. Ensure the rights of the people we support are protected. Record relevant activities in Nourish. Participate in management's assessments of competence as required.

Professional Practice:

  1. Encourage innovative methods for the delivery of support and communication in facilitating people living their best life, including:
    • Providing personal care, such as showering, shaving, oral hygiene and dressing, encouraging self-care whenever possible
    • Assisting with household and daily living tasks and supporting people to develop their skills for example, Making beds and keeping the environment clean and hygienic
    • Encouraging and ensuring good nutrition, assisting in preparing meals, assisting with feeding and hydration.
    • Accompanying individuals to appointments with clinics, GPs, health professionals, hospitals, and other relevant services
    • Enabling the people we support to be a part of their wider community
  2. Encourage health promotion within support strategies, including:
    • Administering medication and treatments as prescribed by healthcare professionals and updating on changes in patient behavior or condition
    • Monitoring health and wellbeing, maintaining records vital signs such as pulse, temperature, and blood pressure and reporting any changes
    • Promoting mental well-being by providing emotional support and companionship
  3. Seek opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  4. Promote a positive image for residency and employment within the service.

Participation in team development:

  1. Co-operate with the implementation, evaluation, orientation and induction of all new employees.
  2. Contribute to the implementation of the service’s policies and procedures.
