Safe Intelligence is on a mission to make AI safe and reliable for anyone to use. To help us succeed, our team is looking for Machine Learning Specialists, and we’re hoping it’s you!


In this role, you’ll play a leading role in helping both customers with their ML validation challenges and in helping drive our product forward with insights on how to build the best validation solutions for high-stakes machine vision problems. The specific focus of this position is on ML-based computer vision in high-stakes applications in Aviation, Mobility, Robotics and Edge Devices. 


The role has significant customer & user-facing elements working on real world problems to help ML teams (R&D and Product within other organizations) improve the quality of their models. In addition you will also work closely with the Safe Intelligence R&D team to help improve the company’s tools based on the challenges you see in your domains of expertise. This can range from inputs to product to working on the product itself. 


Working knowledge or contributions to state-of-the-art machine vision models including object detectors as used in applications is required. Previous knowledge of Machine Learning verification isn’t required, but a solid knowledge of existing testing practices, metrics, state-of-the-art training and validation methods are extremely valuable.

Responsibilities : As a Safe Intelligence Machine Learning Specialist - Computer Vision , you will:


  • Work closely with customers and end-users to understand their machine vision models and help them assess performance. Generally these will be R&D and product teams at customer organisations including leading teams in major companies in Aviation, Mobility, Robotics, and Edge Devices 
  • Implement prototypes, use cases, and solutions that apply the algorithms developed at Safe Intelligence to address user-specific problems, particularly in the field of machine vision for Aviation, Mobility, Robotics and Edge Devices.
  • Conduct experiments to evaluate various approaches and weigh their respective trade-offs.
  • Coordinate with the research and platform teams to guide future development based on use-case specific challenges. 
  • Contribute to the development of an efficient and scalable package for performing verification and robust learning. 


Requirements : The technical requirements for the role are:


  • Experience in training, evaluating and deploying Machine Vision models, including standard architectures such as Yolo, Vision Transformer architectures, and Eva. 
  • An in-depth understanding of machine learning models  enabling you to train such models to high performance and modify/tune their architecture based on given constraints.
  • Experience talking to stakeholders in these models to understand their requirements and guiding them through what is and is not possible or desirable in a model.
  • Familiarity with Python and the packages widely used in data science and machine learning. Developers should be familiar with libraries like NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
  • Fluency in validation and evaluation framework and metrics frameworks for machine learning such as Accuracy, Recall, F1 scores and others.


Additional beneficial experience includes:


  • Familiarity with best practice in Machine Learning workflows and MLOps tools.
  • Technical experience in developing non-ML solutions in the Aviation, Mobility, Edge Devices, and/or Robotics industries.

Project Title: AI-empowered Vision System for Passenger Counting and Smart Passenger Information System (PIS)

This project is a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project between Loughborough University and TrainFX, funded by UKRI Innovate UK, with 13.5 months remaining.

This is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking and ambitious specialist in computer vision and machine learning to join a company that specialises in providing SAAS services to the Rail Industry. Working with some of the biggest Train Operators in the UK, you will be joining a company that finds ways to help make services to Rail passengers better, faster and more accessible for everyone.

The project aims to develop computer vision technology for automated counting of passenger numbers and monitoring occupancy in train carriages and integrate the real-time passenger loading information into TrainFX Smart-PIS (Passenger Information System). 

The AI-empowered Smart-PIS will provide dynamic data acquisition and real-time, personalised information supporting travellers, railway operators and service providers. The system will improve current service efficiency, promote passenger satisfaction, and provide the potential for new services through affordable technologies.  It is the first of this kind of innovative system in railway which enables bespoke customisation towards rail industry objectives.  

The whole KTP project will be delivered through dual Associate workplans by two KTP Associates. KTPs aim to help businesses improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK Knowledge Base. 

The candidate will be hold PhD (or near completion) or MSc in Computer Science or closely allied disciplines and will have solid skills to support software QA and optimise I/O performance.

The KTP Associate will be based primarily at the company TrainFX premises in Derbyshire and will also spend some time at Loughborough University with the academic team. The Associate will be supervised by an academic team led by Prof. Baihua Li and Prof. Qinggang Meng who are experts in AI and computer vision at Department of Computer Science, Loughborough. The Associate will form an integral part of the TrainFX research and development team, working closely with the TrainFX supervisory team and company partners.

Job Title: Senior Computer Vision Engineer

Location: On-site, Oxfordshire (2 days a week)

Salary Range: £70k - £100k

About the role


A deeptech AV start-up are developing multiple platforms capable of navigating through challenging outdoor environments. This is a fast growing team aiming to nearly double in size this year. They already have funding and customers in place with exciting strategic partnerships to announce in the coming months.


They’re building multi-modal systems that integrate vision, LiDAR, radar, thermal, and language models into real-time AI for autonomous platforms.


This is deeply applied work, where advanced research is translated into operational capability. Key Responsibilities


  • Design and implement cutting-edge computer vision and sensor fusion algorithms across modalities (e.g., visual, thermal, radar, LiDAR).
  • Develop AI models suitable for edge and embedded platforms (e.g., Nvidia Jetson, Raspberry Pi).
  • Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and domain experts to integrate perception modules into operational systems.
  • Build and maintain robust ML pipelines suitable for constrained or offline environments.
  • Stay current with developments in vision-language models, generative AI, and multi-modal learning, and apply relevant advances to ongoing work.



Ideal Candidate


  • Demonstrable experience deploying solutions into defence, aerospace, or other regulated domains.
  • Deep understanding of computer vision techniques for detection and localisation.
  • Strong experience working with embedded or constrained compute platforms.
  • Proficiency in Python and major machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Experience with version control (Git), containerisation (Docker), and cloud technologies (e.g., AWS).
  • Experience with building and maintaining end-to-end ML pipelines.



Bonus experience


  • Experience in start-up or rapid R&D environment
  • Familiarity with MLOps and best practices in ML system reliability.
  • Experience designing and deploying RESTful APIs.
  • Contributions to open-source projects, GitHub portfolio or published research.
  • Experience engaging stakeholders, writing technical documentation or supporting proposals.

This position involves researching, developing, and implementing real-time image processing algorithms for a high-performance visualization platform. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and optimizing existing image processing algorithms for enhanced visual performance and execution speed.
  • Proposing, researching, and developing innovative algorithms relevant to the platform.
  • Delivering high-quality, specification-compliant code.
  • Utilizing tools like OpenCV, TensorFlow, and other computer vision libraries.

  • Strong coding skills in C/C++.

Desirable Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience writing CUDA kernel code.
  • Proficiency in optimizing algorithms for speed during both design and implementation stages.
  • Familiarity with camera calibration and 3D reconstruction techniques.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, especially when explaining technical concepts to non-specialists.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to contribute ideas to R&D strategy and planning.
  • Quick learner with minimal supervision requirements.
