**Job Description**
A Systems Engineer, or Senior Systems Engineer is required to maintain the correct level of Systems Design throughout a project life cycle. Working within a flexible engineering environment this role will become part of a team of highly motivated, skilled and experienced individuals whose primary activities relate to electrical power generation and distribution systems, and include:
- System requirement definition, working with the customer in a team context
- System design including architectures, performance analysis and integration aspects
- Requirement management and compliance analysis
- Responsible for Systems related technical decisions and providing the Systems interface to the customer.
- Participation in system test rig design, test rig commissioning and system testing
- Support of system testing at the site and customer's facility
- Preparation of documentation with the end goal of system qualification and aircraft certification (including system specifications, interface control documents, system description documents, test specifications and reports)
- Support for compiling and collating documentation for Safety of Flight / Certification, and issuing the System Declaration of Design and Performance (DDP)
- Generation of Project plans and Monthly Execution Plans (MEP) and attending daily stand-up meetings to ensure the Programme Engineering budget is met
- Supporting new business growth in promoting the company's capability to customers, in investigating possible opportunities and in preparation of responses to customer Requests for Proposal
**Job Requirements**
- A degree in Electrical, Electronic, Aeronautical, Systems or Control Engineering or other appropriate professional qualification
- A strong interest in systems design and integration, and their application to electrical power generation and distribution
- Work experience in, and a broad understanding of, aircraft or other complex safety-critical systems
- Use of DOORS software.
- Good understanding of the System Engineering process and its application to the product lifecycle
- Experience of understanding and interpreting customer and internal specifications to extract technical requirements, building strong relationships with external and internal customers
- System architecture decomposition and definition, Integration V&V planning, System requirement definition, Validation, Implementation, System verification etc
- Evidence of written English at interview stage. This will be through providing certification of a formal English or technical qualification studied in the UK or overseas in English. If this cannot be provided you will be required to complete and pass an online SHL English comprehension test as part of the interview process

What you will do

Your primary responsibility will be to enact good systems engineering practices in a predominately Windows environment. Key subsystems include radio, video and network interfaces. Your role will include full lifecycle management of a systems environment, project delivery subject to customer direction and technical development of the core system.


What we are looking for
  • Current clearance, or the ability to gain DV clearance.
  • MS Windows Server administration experience and associated technologies such as AD, DNS & DHCP.
  • MS SQL Server Administration experience would also be useful.
  • Responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical Microsoft server systems.
  • Experience with virtualisation technologies e.g. Vmware, Hyper-V
  • Manage server patching through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
  • Configure and maintain Windows servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Analyse, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models, e.g Veeam, BackupExec
     

It would be nice if you had:

  • Red Hat experience.
  • Working knowledge of radio technologies, in particular ROIP.
  • Familiarity with networking technologies.
  • Knowledge of JSP440 security guidelines.
  • Knowledge/Experience working within an MBSE environment.
  • Experience of working with industry partners and platform integrators to support platform integration and installation.

Location: This role will be based in Herefordshire, with very occasional travel to other sites.

This role involves integration, verification, validation, qualification, and acceptance (IVVQA) of complex navigation and bridge systems for naval combatants and maritime surveillance projects. Based in Portsmouth, with hybrid work options available, this position offers an exciting opportunity for professional growth and continuous learning.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the technical aspects of customer requirements and generate input for project plans, system specifications, and product documentation
  • Engage in test management concerning the engineering project, including effort, cost, and task management
  • Create test specifications and test plans for integration and system testing
  • Participate in development reviews, including peer and technical reviews
  • Test and validate systems and software, including customer acceptance events such as FAT, HAT, and SAT
  • Support systems and software engineers in debugging and root cause analysis of deviations and problems
  • Conduct configuration repair and testing of customer returned items as necessary


Job Requirements:

  • Experience in test and integration planning of complex systems
  • Proficiency in building, configuring, and diagnosing faults in PC-based systems and networking
  • Familiarity with tools such as DOORS, SVN, MS Office, Visio, and JIRA
  • Capability to work as part of an agile development team (SCRUM)


Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of software and systems development principles, design patterns, and best practices
  • Experience with publish-subscribe middleware architectures, such as DDS
  • Expertise in configuring and testing network infrastructure, including switching, routing, encryption, security, optimisation, VLANs, and VMs
  • Ability to create software test and deployment utilities using high-level languages/scripting, e.g., Python
  • Experience in testing marine electronics systems, including radar systems, electronic chart systems, navigation aids, and steering control systems
  • Knowledge of naval systems integration standards and practices
  • ISTQB certification at the foundation level
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • A passion for learning and staying updated with new technologies


Education:


HNC or equivalent in electrical/electronic engineering or a related technical field
