Role Summary:

As the Engineering Technical Project Manager, you will take charge of leading and managing key hardware and software/firmware engineering projects in order to deliver to customers within the agreed scope, on time, quality and budget.

Key responsibilities within your new role would be to:

  • Leadership, coordination, proactive management, completion and delivery of assigned projects.
  • Support bids and proposals.
  • Lead, set and manage deadlines, monitor and manage progress of assigned projects.
  • Lead and direct the work of other project team members to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Prepare cost and price build-up analysis using data in the company's MRP and cost models.
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving relevant stakeholders and ensuring feasibility.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure aspects of each project are compatible.
  • Liaise with operations for lead time estimates and production schedule updates.
  • Coordinate internal business resources and third parties for the execution and delivery of multiple projects.
  • Ensure that projects are delivered on-time, within budget, to quality and scope.
  • Coordinate resource availability and allocation.
  • Develop a detailed project plan to monitor, track and report progress.
  • Manage project changes such as scope, schedule and costs using appropriate verification techniques.
  • Measure performance using appropriate project management tools and techniques.
  • Manage the relationship with the client and relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify potential risks and solutions to minimise potential risks.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
  • Delegate project tasks effectively based on team members' individual strengths, skill, knowledge and experience.
  • Track project performance to analyse the completion of short and long-term goals/objectives.
  • Meet budgetary objectives and adjust project constraints based on financial analysis.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans to be shared with clients/customers.
  • Continually develop your own leadership and management skills.

Experience and skills required for this position:

  • Previous Project Management experience - ideally with an understanding of a relevant engineering discipline (mechanical, electro-optics, software, systems architecture etc.)
  • A track record in risk management.
  • From a defence or similar background.
  • Understanding of ground based Surveillance Target Acquisition & Reconnaissance technology and products.
  • Understanding of current end user concepts, tactics, techniques and procedures.
  • Be familiar with the principles of New Product Introduction and gate processes.
  • Project planning skills.
  • Budget management and cost control.
  • Project management and resourcing.
  • Risk identification, management and mitigation.
  • Process and continuous improvement.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Be able to work on your own initiative, and as part of a team.
  • Due to the nature of this business all candidate will be required to undergo security clearance at SC level.

What Are We Looking For?

Following continued success, our Asset Management and Technical Services team is looking for a Project Manager to join the team in our office based in Ashford. You’ll be responsible for the delivery of projects, or key elements within projects, and manage the performance of projects end-to-end for out Southern Water Framework. This will require supervision of operational sites and their delivery teams, including Project Engineers, Site Managers, Supervisors and Sub-Contractors.

Some of Your Key Duties of the Role Include:

  • Project liaison from enquiry stage to final acceptance and documentation. Meeting with clients to discuss specific requirements and carry out site surveys as required.
  • li>Ensure all technical information is available when required for the delivery of design and/or construction.
  • Interpret and check drawings, specifications, and schedules for all activities. Directing works accordingly & preparing final documentation (As Built Drawings etc.).
  • Early identification and resolution of non-conformance within both the design and construction phase.
  • Manage the design of systems and products, ensuring alignment with design specifications and technical aspects.
  • Production of risk assessments and method statements.
  • Management of health, safety, and environmental issues.

What Do You Need?

  • Qualification to degree / HND/ HNC level in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven track record in Project Management, with an engineering or supervisory background.
  • Good time management, with the ability to multitask, plan and organise day-to-day workloads within a busy environment.
  • Good interpersonal skills with an ability to work with, lead and motivate others, and be able to bring projects to successful completion.
  • Driven, with an ability to work individually and with teams under your direction.
  • Innovative thinking, with an ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Full UK Driving Licence

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
The Project Manager acts across all areas of the factory site, managing both new installations and enhancements to existing equipment. The role will lead as well as participate in multi-disciplinary teams.
The Project Manager will be responsible for all aspects of the projects, from technical specification, FAT, training, budgeting and contractor management through to project handover and will use project management tools and documents such as URS, Gantt Charts, and RACI.
The Project Manager is an all-encompassing role, including project engineering as well as project management. Whilst no need for formal qualification of practical skill sets, the post holder will certainly need a practical aptitude. It will require someone that is as happy in the factory environment as they are in the office. A collaborative approach is essential alongside a can-do attitude with no element of the project management process being outside of the post-holder's remit.
Your main focus :
+ Use technical skills and business acumen, participate in defining the scope, benefits, objectives, design, cost estimate, schedule and business case for engineering projects across all technical areas of the local business. Deliver the projects to completion.
+ Effectively translate stakeholders' and Project Team members' requirements to deliver projects through their full life cycle, ensuring targets are met
+ Take responsibility for the day-to-day preparation, management and deliverable completion of the engineering aspects of the project.
+ Ensure that design, fabrication and installation complies with the relevant Coty Design Guides, local engineering practices and project deliverables through robust concept and detailed design activities & reviews.
+ Apply change management processes and establish validation success criteria. Where validation is required, prepare a detailed programme and protocols, lead the execution of the validation exercises, prepare snagging lists and meet acceptance requirements for handover plans

You will also be a degree qualified (or equivalent) engineer and you will ideally be chartered, or a member of a relevant engineering institution e.g. ICE. Support can be given to achieve this if required.
