ABB Robotics Programmer

ABB Robotics Programmer | £35K-£38K | Permanent | DEM, Burnley

We are seeking an experienced Robotics (Automation) Engineer, primarily with experience of ABB Robotics.

The successful candidate would be required to hold strong working knowledge of automated solutions within a manufacturing environment. The candidate must demonstrate an ability to apply technical solutions to address customer needs. The ability to work independently as well as with teams on a variety of projects and have strong initiative and integrity as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Robotic Programmer you will be required to program, test machinery and fault find automated production lines along with the development of technical and operating manuals. You will have a key role in the programming of new installations using ABB robots and must be fully confident in interrogating existing programs for improvement and fault finding.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a manufacturing background, with a detailed knowledge base of automated manufacturing. They must be familiar with logic flow and understand the complete process of program writing and fault diagnoses using various software packages. They must have experience in Online and Offline programming incorporating ABB’s Robostudio software and pendant programming.

Job Responsibilities

• Robotic installation and commissioning,
• Interfacing automation hardware with electrical systems and the basic principles of machine control,
• Programming and de-bugging robotics, production machinery and machine vision software/hardware,
• Actively working alongside and communicating with other departments and clients, to ensure projects match their specifications, are completed on time and within budget,
• Conduct R&D where necessary, we provide after-market repairs and updates for our clients,
• Study processes; identify and make recommendations for automation possibilities
• Work with various process owners, subcontractors, vendors and programmers to develop and implement proposed ideas

Preferred Skills

• Proven track record of the implementation of robotics and automation (2 years ABB robotics min)
• Strong mechanical and electronic aptitude
• Strong electrical knowledge is required, specifically on control voltages for signal transmission and the principles of emergency stop circuits so as to deliver equipment meeting all safety requirements in an engineering environment
• Ability to interface automation, robotics, CNC, etc…
• Familiar with Profinet, Profibus, EthernetIP networking systems
• PLC programming
• Familiar with common Ladder structure or structured text programming
• Strong knowledge of pneumatics valves and cylinders/grippers, hydraulic clamping cylinders
• Good knowledge of health and safety statutory requirements

Note: As business grows, travel & overnight stays will be required for customer installations.
