AWE Fire and Rescue – Section Head

AWE plays a crucial role in nuclear defence, providing the warheads for the UK’s nuclear deterrent. What we do is unique and so are the people who work here. We currently have an exceptional opportunity to join us as a Section Head for AWE Fire and Rescue .  

Responsible for the management and Leadership of AWE Fire & Rescue Service (FRS) ensuring an effective Operational Response to support AWE Plc’s Operations and Activities. Maintaining fire service-related Protection, Prevention, Response and Training for National Strategic Assets and Facilities on MoD estate. Ensuring AWE Fire & Rescue Service meet Operational, Regulatory and Business Requirements.

Location - Reading/Basingstoke area

Salary - £58,970- £75,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience) plus allowances.

  • To be responsible ensuring that AWE FRS continually meets the Regulatory Requirements.
  • Demonstrates a high level of leadership and resource management skills.
  • To ensure that an effective operational response is available on both AWE Sites in line with agreed parameters.
  • Responsible for supporting and motivating others by driving policy and initiatives across the business.
  • Responsible for reviewing business impact and consequences of policy.
  • Explore and develop links between different functions, groups, or individuals to promote organisational objectives.
  • Responsible for identifying key groups (internal & external) who will be affected by a decision, taking steps to ensure their understanding of the implications (e.g. workload, financial restrictions, service provision).
  • Develop individuals within the team and manages a range of variables including staffing, budgets, and tasking.
  • Organises and monitors team on short/medium term projects.
  • Has a detailed working knowledge of company management systems.
  • Maintain Level 3 Incident Command Competencies.
  • Uphold and promote the values of AWE, complying with the required standards of conduct and integrity, and demonstrating commitment to helping the service achieve its vision of a safer AWE.
  •  Maintains effective and harmonious working relationships within the team and manages conflict by implementing solutions and recommendations.

The role holder will have some of the following skills and attributes –

  • Incident Command Level 3.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Internal Quality Assurance.
  • National Occupational Standards (Senior Leadership)
  • Ability to manage and influence people.
  • Ability to motivate others and adapt leadership style as required.
  • Ability to manage and resolve complex cross discipline, technical and organisational issues.
  • Ability to identify problems, evaluate options and formulate effective solutions.
  • Ability to constructively challenge and deal with conflict.
