Role: Academies & Professional Development Manager

Reports to: Head of Learning & Talent Development

Contract: 12 month FTC or Internal Secondment

Location: Stratford (highly flexible 1-2 days pw)

Hours : 35 hours per week - open to flexible working requests

Salary: £50-55k

We’re looking for an inspiring individual to lead the delivery of the academies & professional development strategy at CRUK  . You will embrace the opportunity to identify & launch new academy propositions and define the organisations approach to professional development and academy-based learning & development. Collaborating across all Directorates, you will ensure maximum utilisation of the apprenticeship levy, aligned to their strategic learning priorities and lead the development and delivery of the career development colleague offering at CRUK  

What will I be Doing?

  • Work with relevant stakeholders to assess organisational learning needs , maximising the impact of existing Academies and identifying needs for future Academies

  • Embed and continue to evolve our approach to offering professional development ( primarily through Apprenticeships) across CRUK

  • Partner with L&D Business Partners and Managers to embed and iterate the Academies & Professional Development strategy which aligns with the skills and capability priorities across the organisation , agreeing local budget impacts   

  • Manage relationships with apprenticeship training providers to ensure service levels are met and a high-quality experience is provided for every learner  

  • Through Academies & Professional Development specialists, ensure all learners are effectively supported and successfully complete their professional qualifications  

  • Strive to maximise our use of the Apprenticeship levy, providing regular and accurate reporting and forecasts on levy utilisation  

  • In conjunction with the ESG team, h elp to define the approach to re-purposing un-used levy funds (e.g. gifting to smaller charities)   

  • Stay up to date with industry and government advances in the Apprenticeships & Technical Education field and identify future opportunities to maximise their value for the charity.  

  • Continue and evolve the work to define and implement the charity’s approach to helping colleagues feel able to meet their career aspirations at CRUK

Leadership and management 

  • Lead and manage direct reports , including setting objectives , regular coaching and feedback and day to day management to ensure L&D activities are delivered to a high standard .  

  • Be a role model for learning & development, identifying opportunities to enhance professional knowledge and skills  

  • Proactively contribute as a member of the L&D leadership team   

  • Ensure equality , diversity and inclusion is celebrated and considered as part of all decisions taken   

Financial

  • Manage the use of, and report on the utilisation of apprenticeship levy funds to ensure maximum value for the charity  

  • Responsible for a small budget of c.£65,000 supporting devolved nations qualification requests

Skills & Knowledge  

  • Utilises consultancy skills to engage with the business, identify development opportunities and ensure appropriate solutions are developed, delivered and adopted to meet business needs   

  • D emonstrate a thorough understanding of how individuals and teams most effectively learn and develop  

  • Excellent relationship management and influencing skills with the ability to adapt style and approach to different audiences   

  • Excellent people management skills, ensuring staff are supported, motivated and challenged to achieve objectives  

  • Effective planning and project management skills with the ability to set and work to deadlines in complex, matrixed environments

  • Ability to design and implement a blended approach to learning and development which maximises use of technology platforms, with an evolving and cost-effective range of delivery methods  

  • Proficient user of the Microsoft Office suite (especially PowerPoint and Teams)  

Experience  

  • Significant experience of designing and delivering successful L&D solutions  

  • Significant experience of working in partnership with internal business customers to assess needs and deliver appropriate solutions  

  • Relevant experience of working with and managing quality of delivery from third party suppliers   

  • R elevant experience of working with budgets  (desirable)

  • Experience of designing and delivering Apprenticeship or professional development programmes (desirable)
