Company Description

Ute Decker is an artist jeweller who creates sculptural pieces in Fairtrade Gold and recycled silver. At home more in the art world than commercial product jewellery, her work is represented by leading Mayfair galleries specialising in jewellery by fine artists; exhibited at major international fairs such as Design Miami & Basel, PAD and Tefaf and found in several museum collections including the V&A.  

With several exciting upcoming exhibitions and projects, Ute Decker is looking to engage a part-time assistant to take over administrative tasks to allow Ute to spend more time in the studio instead of the office.   

The successful candidate will be working directly alongside the artist and will be able to manage all administrative aspects of a small but prominent arts practice.  

Job Description

Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Hub of a small arts practice: Coordinate & manage all administrative tasks for a busy artist with several ongoing projects at any time 
  • Inventory & consignment management: Keep records and archives up to date at all times with relevant imagery and work details (Artlogic). Coordination with studio assistant to ensure details are accurate.   
  • Bookkeeping & Invoicing    
  • CRM: Maintaining contacts database & relationships    
  • Project Management / IT Solutions:  Identifying, scoping & implementing improvements, maintaining best practices  
  • Process Improvements: Process templating, style guides, stylesheets, delegation    
  • Overseeing: Planning for exhibitions and professional photography & retouching   
  • Photography: Basic photography & photo editing for website and records  
  • Email: Monitoring general email, appointments, scheduling, clients and press  
  • Artist Website: Updating and maintaining                
  • Social Media managing all aspects
  • Communication: Mature communication skills to engage with galleries, clients, suppliers and press  
  • Talks & Events & Exhibitions: Compiling visual and preparatory material for artist, press and organisers              

Qualifications

The perfect candidate will have/be:

  • An experienced administrator  
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, being concise and friendly in your written & spoken communication  
  • Efficient & diligent with thorough attention to detail  
  • Always looking to improve, streamline and template office processes  
  • Ability to work to your own initiative and to multiple deadlines  
  • Ability to prioritize, plan effectively and to problem solve
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently  
  • Solid skills in Microsoft Office (Exel & Word mostly) and experience with project management tools   

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of tools such as ClickUp & Artlogic a bonus  
  • Being able to assist during UK exhibitions, Goldsmiths’ Fair and open studios at Cockpit Bloomsbury  
  • Experience in the high-end creative industry (fine art, high end contemporary craft, art jewellery)

What is on Offer  

Join a prominent artist practice exhibiting internationally. Being a small practice, the position allows the candidate to be fully involved in all aspects.

  • The position is for 2 days per week  
  • Days can be flexible   
  • Location - there is some flexibility but mostly working together on site (Highbury Islington/Angel or Cockpit Arts Bloomsbury)   
  • Hourly Rate £ 16 - £ 20 / hr depending on skills and efficiency
