Job Description

ANP / ACP - Haematology Oncology Cancer Centre

This is a unique and excellent opportunity to come and work within our Haematology Oncology Team here at Queen Alexandra Hospital. This is also a great opportunity to develop a career in advanced practice, we would ideally be looking for someone with ANP experience, or be willing to undergo training and education, to complete Masters level modules to gain an academic qualification as an ANP. This will enable you to clinically assess, diagnose, refer and treat patients who present with undiagnosed or undifferentiated problems.

Advanced Nurse Practitioner's are highly trained health professionals, who should be able to work independently and within the Multi disciplinary team. Skills should include being able to carry out the following:

  • Complex patient reviews/assessments
  • Diagnosing acute and chronic conditions
  • Treatment of minor illnesses
  • Prescribing and reviewing medication
  • Evaluating treatment plans
  • Managing conditions holistically

This will be to work different clinical settings within Haematology and Oncology, those areas being our Inpatient area wards F5, 6 & 7, Acute Oncology Service, Haematology Oncology Outpatients and Day Unit areas. To assist in reviewing patients outside our clinical footprint areas such as the Emergency Department or other inpatient areas within the organisation.

Job Summary

The post holder will practice independently within the Regional Cancer Centre to provide patient-centred quality care. This will encompass the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within an agreed scope of practice throughout the Regional Cancer Centre. The post holder will, ensure the safe assessment, treatment, referral and discharge of patients with undiagnosed and existing medical presentations within the Regional Cancer Centre.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse/RGN registration with NMC
  • 1st level degree
  • Relevant Post Registration qualifications in haematology/oncology
  • Physical Examination and History Taking qualification
  • Registered NMC Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification
  • Evidence of level 7 academic work. Aiming towards a PGDip or Masters Qualification.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Extensive skills and knowledge in haematology/oncology.
  • Extensive knowledge of all facets of haematological and oncological disease
  • Cannulation and Phlebotomy skills
  • Working in the health care sector with staff management experience
  • Manual dexterity required
  • Experience of working across a variety of care settings
  • Knowledge of commissioning procedures
  • Service innovation
  • Evidence of innovation/change management
  • Understanding of the Keyworker role
  • Advanced Communication skills qualification

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years haematology/oncology experience post qualifying encompassing all aspects of haematology/oncology care
  • Ability to develop Pathways/Protocols and Policies
  • Ability to influence the specific patient agenda
  • Ability to implement best practice and influence change
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Time management skills/ability to prioritise
  • Ability to demonstrate flexible working patterns and be able to respond to the needs of the service

  • Commitment to undertake relevant extended role scope competencies
