Who we are

We’re Causeway, the UK-wide charity who believes in the power of lasting change. We take people from existing to living, and empower our service users, including survivors of modern slavery and exploitation. Since 2005, we have expanded across multiple regions and now provide accommodation and outreach support to hundreds of survivors of modern slavery every year. Since 2018, we’ve been collaborating with organisations such as Merseyside Police, South Yorkshire Police, Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service as part of our LifeNavigate department. This department uses a trauma-informed approach to achieve our goal of breaking the cycle of crime. LifeNavigate is made up of 4 programmes; The Deferred Prosecution Scheme (MDPS) which works to support low level offenders of crime to avoid further criminality; ReFocus, which aims to support and signpost individuals who a motivation to change after being identified for potential low level Domestic Abuse; Immediate Justice, which incorporates restorative justice practices to combat antisocial behaviors and Plan B, which offers those in custody suites across SY support and advocacy to positively change the direction of their lives.

Role Summary

How this role fits into the vision and objectives of Causeway

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a navigator role within the Immediate Justice programme. In this role you will facilitate reparative work as part of the Out of Court Disposal framework, for those who have been involved in anti-social behaviour (ASB). You will take a multi-faceted approach to tackle various aspects of ASB, providing trauma-informed support to service users who have completed their reparative activity. The role involves signposting service users to various external support services including but not limited to restorative justice, drug and alcohol services, mental health practitioners, local councils and social services.

Probationary Period

 

 

 

          3 months Responsibilities:
  • Supporting service users who have been arrested for Anti Social Behaviour in order to navigate them toward a crime free future
  • To contact referrals made by Merseyside Police within a maximum of 48 hours to complete a needs based initial assessment
  • To drive staff and equipment  in a company vehicle across the Merseyside region for the purpose of completing reparative activities.
  • To signpost on to support services
  • To formulate a person centered plan of support for clients and to support individual to work toward reaching subsequent goals.
  • Identifying, assessing and minimising risk to individuals
  • To work alongside a fellow Navigator to deliver reparative activity sessions for ASB offenders within the community
  • Lone working is an integral part of this role as is working as part of a team.
  • To work closely with the team delivering restorative justice, to reconcile service users with local communities
  • When appropriate, working with and alongside family members will be an important element of this scheme.
  • Signposting individuals to support services to meet the goals on the individual plan. A successful candidate should be competent in multi-agency working.
  • Regular feedback, team meetings and review meetings with line manager.
  • Regular communication of updates with officers in charge of an individual’s case.
  • Arranging and attending appointments alongside individuals where appropriate.
  • Availability and flexibility to include evening and weekend shifts if necessary
  • Following up and completing all appropriate paperwork and details of client; including on line reporting. Including, weekly reviews, daily logs and inductions. Using the ZOHO CMS system to complete these tasks.
  • Ensuring progression of the client personally and through the journey within the criminal justice system.
  • Liaising and working in partnership with organisations and individuals regarding both the client and Causeway in a professional manner - including but not limited to Merseyside police, HM Probation service , Crown Prosecution service, DMAT as well other agencies and medical professionals.
  • Identifying along with other key performance indicators and ensuring accurate logging of support provided.
  • Ensuring all paperwork is being completed correctly and in a timely fashion.
  • Carrying out inductions, weekly reviews and updating IT system.
  • Ensuring adherence to all internal procedures regarding Causeway, the client and legislation.
  • Promoting Causeway – this may include attending events on behalf of Causeway as a whole or as part of a team.
  • A willingness to promote Causeway -this may mean working outside normal working hours, to represent Causeway at conferences with the stand or attend events to recruit new volunteers.
  • Applicants must be willing to work with either male or female service users depending on the service needs , however it is anticipated that in line with national data that the majority of service users will be male.
Qualifications, experience and skills Essential Requirements
Education, Qualifications & Training
  • Demonstrate knowledge in specific subject area through specialist training,degree or vocational studies.
  • An appropriate enhanced DBS check. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
  • An understanding of The Criminal Justice System.
Experience
  • To have recent experience of working with vulnerable people.
  • Experience of working with individuals who are or are at risk of being within the Criminal Justice System
  • To have recent experience with documenting and logging information, and record keeping.
  • To have recent experience of working with people at risk of being involved in the criminal justice system.
  • Recent experience of working with individuals with behaviors’ that may present as challenging.
Skills
  • To have an appropriate driving license
  • To have good communication skills, including giving feedback and being able to competently and explicitly hand over information.
  • To be able to crisis manage and defuse conflict, and to take initiative when needed.
  • To be flexible and responsive to clients’ needs.
  • To be able to maintain client confidentiality and to record keep.
  • To manage a varied caseload and prioritise tasks.
  • Able to write reports and letters on behalf of your client in a professional manner.
  • A good level of administrative skills.
  • To work within the Internal Policies and Procedures of Causeway.
  • Be able to accurately record keep using a case management system (ZOHO).
  • To be able to deliver training materials to the team and regularly lead meetings for large groups of people

Desirable Requirements: Education, Qualifications & Training
  • Additional qualifications such as; first aid, safe handling of medication. Health and Social Care Level 3 or relevant equivalent qualifications such as qualifications in addiction/life controlling behaviours.
