IS Technical Assistant (Support Technician Apprenticeship)

Grade B - £23,121

Rose Hill HQ & Riverside College.

Merseyside Police are looking for a standout candidate to join our talented and experienced ICT department. As an apprentice you will provide specialist support and advice to our 7,000 employees, on 120 IT Systems and Services used by Merseyside Police with a focus on network support.  In addition, you will gain experience in different areas of the ICT department. The role will be both desk-based and have an opportunity to visit police sites. In this role you will be working towards your level 3  Qualification .

Principle Accountabilities 

  • Provide technical support through a range of communication channels.
  • Incident diagnosis, investigation and resolution using the required troubleshooting methodology and tools and recording of these activities on an IT Service Management system. 
  • Liaise with ICT Helpdesk in relation to the monitoring and tracking of system faults to ensure they are dealt with in a timely and effective manner. 
  • Liaise with other IT support teams.  
  • Gain an understanding of a variety of support disciplines from first to third line support.

Knowledge and Experience

Desired skills

  • Proficient in using the Microsoft office packages, primarily Word, and Excel.
  • Computer literate.
  • An understanding of IT technology and hardware devices.
  • Awareness of cloud technologies.

  • Self-motivated, attention to detail, and organised.
  • Works well as part of a team or independently.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Have an interest in Technology.
  • Honest, hardworking, and flexible.

  • Good problem-solving skills and methodical.

Essential qualifications

  • GCSE Grades A* - C (9-4 equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • 3 x A Level (A* - C) or equivalent.
  • A science or technology qualification is desirable but not essential.

Having a passion for IT will help Information Communications Technician apprentices gain the most out of their apprenticeship programme.
