Full Time 37 hours per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Devon County Council as an apprentice tree officer.
We are looking for an energetic “can do” individual with relevant arboriculture experience and skills to work alongside the council’s Corporate Tree Officer. In order to be considered for this role you will require, or be working towards a level 3 arboriculture qualification and have passed both Maths and English at level 2.
The post will be based out of Devon County Hall in Exeter but will involve travel throughout the beautiful and diverse county of Devon, therefore the postholder will require a full UK driving licence.
You will play a key role, working with a wide range of partners to:
* Provide competent arboriculture support to the council.
* Contribute to the development of processes ensuring that the council’s statutory duties relating to trees remain up-to-date and that best practice is adhered to.
* Provide specialist advice to the public and internal departments, possibly attending meetings and assisting with the presentation of reports.
* Be aware of and keep up to date on new developments in arboriculture and promote good practice.
In addition to on-the-job training gained by working alongside experienced members of staff you will be required to complete Level 4 Arboriculture training with a provisional start date of September 2024 and will also be provided training in order to achieve the Level 3 tree safety inspection qualification.
It is anticipated that this post may be desirable for someone wishing to progress from full time education into work and as such we are prepared to consider a start date that enables the completion of these full-time studies.
Your will normally work 37 hours a week Monday - Friday however the successful applicant will need to be flexible and may be required to occasionally work outside normal working hours, for which you will receive time off in lieu. The post holder will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check.
