Assistant Community Manager

Location: Angel, London

Salary: Circa £28k (full time equivalent)

Contract: Permanent, part time – 3 days

Are you an experienced and empathetic Community Manager who can help us win the fight against cancer?

One in three of us will get cancer at some point in our lives. Cancer Research UK’s online forum Cancer Chat is a place where people affected by cancer can share information, experiences, and support.  This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Community Officer or Manager to support the Forum Manager in the development and management of Cancer Chat.

Your role will involve...

  • Helping the Community Manager to build an active, vibrant and healthy online space where people feel comfortable giving and receiving support.
  • Providing day-to-day support and guidance for community moderators, guiding them on what action to take for problem posts.
  • Monitoring the Cancer Chat website throughout the working day for issues/problems.
  • Monitoring the forum for any technical issues and escalating to the IT team in the absence of the community manager.
  • Being able to quickly react to matters of safeguarding and security, acting proactively and decisively to make the appropriate decisions
  • Fostering community development; putting the users’ interest and safety at the heart of our work.
  • Generating regular, interesting and inspiring content to help encourage community engagement and retention.
  • Supporting the community manager with basic analytics that show how the forum is used.
  • Deputising for Community Manager, including providing cover for periods of leave.

To join us, you’ll need...

  • Experience of managing online forums
  • An empathetic approach and the ability to cope with emotional content
  • To be able to engage with the community and be an excellent communicator
  • Excellent verbal, written and editing skills
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills.

You will be based at our London office, where you will support the Cancer Chat manager in the day-to-day running of the Cancer Chat forum.    This may include covering the occasional weekend or evening shift .
