Position Description

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology ( ) at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Practice in Anthropology to begin August 2024. This is a permanent, non-tenure track position with responsibilities in teaching, research and service. Teaching load is five courses for the academic year. We are looking for candidates with a research focus in North America and demonstrated expertise in archaeological materials analysis who can support both Department program needs as well as support the work of the Center for Archaeological Research. Preference will be given to a candidate who is prepared to teach four-field introductory anthropology and North American archaeology courses, classes in their area of expertise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate student theses with colleagues in the department.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Anthropology by the time of appointment and have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and a pedagogy that values diversity and inclusivity.
