Position Description

The University of Mississippi’s Department of Higher Education seeks applicants to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are open to methodological approaches and seek a colleague who focuses on one or more of the following via their research, scholarship, and service: (a) college student access and success, (b) college student development; (c) organization, policy, and governance; (d) student affairs administration; and/or (e) program assessment and evaluation. The Department of Higher Education offers master's degrees focused on Student Affairs on the Oxford campus and in an online cohort designed for working professionals. The department also offers the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree focused on researcher preparation and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in an online cohort focused on practitioner preparation based on the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) framework directed toward equity, ethics, and social justice in professional practice. The candidate of choice will be asked to chair as well as serve on doctoral dissertation committees and master's theses, conduct research, and provide service to the Department, University, broader discipline, and community.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support the mission of the University and School of Education to prepare researchers and reflective professionals who create, use and share knowledge in partnership with individuals and communities to serve Mississippi and beyond
  • Teach traditional, hybrid, and/or online courses in Higher Education / Student Affairs and advise students in MA, PhD, and EdD programs
  • Engage in research, writing, and other scholarly activities in the field of Higher Education / Student Affairs
  • Provide service, outreach, and leadership in the field of Higher Education / Student Affairs

Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in Higher Education or a related field
  • Graduate teaching and advising experience or evidence of potential
  • Evidence of potential for scholarship relevant to Higher Education / Student Affairs
  • Experience and dedication to working with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated commitment to collegiality and collaboration
