We have an opportunity for an Associate Director in Scope’s Sovereign and Public Sector Ratings team to join an international team of economists and public sector analysts to become responsible for the credit analysis of a portfolio of sovereigns, supranationals, sub-sovereigns and/or government-related entities. The position is UK-based, but other European offices could also be considered. Remote work is also a possibility.

Full Job Description
- Conduct ratings and research on a portfolio of mostly non- European sovereigns, and in addition , UK-based government related entities (universities, social housing)
- Lead rating committee discussions, being responsible for rating recommendations and the communication with issuers, investors and journalists
- Identify, initiate and undertake rigorous quantitative and qualitative economic, financial and political risk analysis, including macro-economic scenario analyses
- Production of high-quality rating reports and sector research, demonstrating Scope’s fundamental understanding of macro-economic and public sector trends
- Conduct investor and issuer outreach, and interviews with the press presenting and explaining Scope’s analytical approach
- Development and training of junior analysts, further developing the Sovereign and Public Sector team
- 5+ years of relevant experience in sovereign and public sector analysis and/or applied economics gained from a ministry of finance, central bank, international institution, rating agency, bank or macro-economic research house
- Strong understanding of macro-economics and public sector balance sheets and a keen interest and awareness of international and political affairs. Graduate degree in economics or equivalent (PhD, MA); CFA is a plus
- Strong quantitative skills (economics, econometrics, accounting and finance). Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint, Eviews, Stata, Oxford Economics, Bloomberg
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and at least one other European language (ideally, German or French) are a must, particularly in producing high quality research and extensive public speaking experience is a plus
- Intellectually curious, analytically rigorous and a keen interest to take ownership and responsibility of multiple projects under tight deadlines that involve both independent and team work
- Confident and professional appearance and high social and communication skills
- Cool under pressure, accountable and reliable with highest integrity and fun to work with
