We are currently looking for Analysts to help us measure, interpret, analyse and report on electromagnetic signatures at our ranges across the UK.
QinetiQ operates and manages a variety of measurement facilities (sea ranges) throughout the UK and internationally, for the test and evaluation of naval stealth signatures within the electromagnetic spectrum, for both ships and submarines. Signature data is analysed and evaluated by our experts to provide information to customers to enable them to fully understand the risks to their platforms from the various weapon systems, which exploit the electromagnetic spectrum. The Electro-Signature Services team falls within QinetiQ’s Long-Term Partnering Agreement (LTPA) with the Ministry of Defence.
The Role
As an
Associate Electro-Magnetic Analyst, you will have a role that is out
of the ordinary. You'll specialise in signature stealth for a range of
platforms, based at our Gosport site for analysis of operations and
platforms. You'll provide key analysis from trial days across
acoustics, signature analysis and underwater analysis. Supporting you
in this hands-on role, you’ll provide support of a range of sea trials
for naval based platforms, as well as have the opportunity to operate
form niche trials environments across the UK with potential to be
involved with customer-based oversea trials.
With hands-on learning, you will be responsible for:
- Participating in various electromagnetic projects
- Ranging involvement in a variety of capacities for both on-board relevant platforms and shore side.
- Working as part of the analysis team, you’ll be involved with providing a range of customer requirements (both the Royal Navy and MoD), delivering key data analysis and scientific customer-based report writing
- Ensuring compliance with all Health and Safety and Environmental requirements and trials planning documentation.
This role is full-time, 37 hours per week, and based at Haslar Marine Technology Park site in Gosport (potential to be based at Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth). Flexible working will be available, dependent on the requirements of the business.
Essential experience of the Associate
Electro-Magnetic Analyst
- A background in a scientific or engineering discipline is desirable.
- IT literate to a good degree of competency across a range of packages
- Experience of producing high quality reports. qualified in analysis, interpretation and reporting of analytical data types in electromagnetics or a related discipline
- A methodical approach to, analysis and experience of report writing
- Must have UK Driving Licence to ensure the ability to change working patterns and locations for a range of exciting trials and customer opportunities
- Physical ability to manage boat transfers and ladders.
- Familiarity with naval platforms and their associated systems would be advantageous but not essential, as training will be given where appropriate.
Qualifications for the Associate Electro-Magnetic Analyst
- An HND qualification, plus relevant industry experience (such as theoretical and practical electronic experience)
Or
- A relevant academic background such as degree or level 4-5 in study of appropriate areas (including physics, software, electro-magnetic engineering, electrical and electronics engineering).
Or
- Relevant practical understanding and experience of electronic engineering, electro-magnetic engineering and associated naval platforms obtained from Senior Commissioned or Non-Commissioned Royal Navy (RN) experience; having worked specifically with submarines and RN ships.
