Automation Engineer
Hours: Basic Hours:
07:30 to 16:30 Monday - Thursday and 07:30 to 13:30 Fridays.
Location: Colchester
Salary: Negotiable
An organisation
focused on sustainable and scalable performance systems are currently
recruiting for an Automation Engineer to join a growing team based in
the Colchester region. This role is onsite with some potential hybrid
options once trained.
Within this new role you will be ensuring
the automation aspects of the machines are designed to the highest
standard, within budget and within the requested time frame and
ensuring internal customers are kept up to date with automation design
aspects. Within this new role you will be generating project specific
functional design specifications and test documentation, whilst
working with the electrical department to produce safety documentation
and inspection documents. The role will involve specifying electrical
design and automation equipment for use on projects and develop, test
and evaluate theoretical designs.
The appointed candidate shall
be programming, creation, fault finding & modification of PLC control
software and providing continued development of software structures
and libraries. You will generate and maintain standard work
instructions and procedures for software application logic, whilst
generating project specific network diagrams. The role will require
you to have some involvement in technical training both on & off site
and picking up with esculated technical telephone support for
customers.
Responsibilities & duties
- Software writing - Ensure that the automation aspect of the machines are designed using the minimum hours, at the required quality and by the required date.
- Testing of machinery to ensure the software is suitable and functional.
- Work together & communicate with other departments to ensure their needs are met.
- Provide automation technical assistance as required.
- Always be looking at ways to improve the business, both from within your own function and that of others.
- Take responsibility for identifying and championing new ideas.
Work
experience & skills
- Proven track record in writing control software in Siemens & Rockwell
- Qualification (of equivalent experience) in Automation Engineering and Electrical Engineering
- Ability to design automation software applications in Siemens & Routeco
- Experience of motion control in Sinamics & Kinetix preferred
- Ability to design electrical circuits
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent approach/manner, with ability to deal at all levels of an organisation
- Attention to detail, but able to take an holistic view when required
- Willingness to work as part of a close knit team, but capable of working independently when required.
