Job Title : Band 3 Make Ready Support Worker

Location : Ballymena

Duration : Temporary position, 6 months initially with possibility of extension

Hours : Part Time. Mon-Fri, 22.5 hours per week. 24/7 working pattern

Salary : £11.67 per hour.

On behalf of our client, we are seeking a Band 3 Make Ready Support Worker who will have responsibility for ensuring that ambulances, equipment and consumables are in a state of immediate readiness. The post holder will prepare ambulances for operational duty to an agreed quality standard for the safety and wellbeing of NIAS Staff and Patients. This will include cleaning, decontaminating, re- stocking, vehicle roadworthiness checks and safety/functional checks of onboard equipment (medical and non-medical). The role may involve shift working including at night and weekends.

Duties include:

  • Contribute to ensuring the highest standards of environmental cleanliness within designated area of work.
  • Contribute to the readiness of the NIAS fleet by ensuring vehicles are stocked, cleaned, in good state of repair and road worthy.
  • Undertake Vehicle Daily Inspection (VDI) checks on lights, wiper blades, fluid levels etc and report defects / organise repair where appropriate
  • Report faults, defects, hazards and near misses as appropriate
  • Be available to commit to a “virtual rota” which includes working over a 24/7 period. This includes shift work, on-call and Public Holidays if / when required
  • Ensure that equipment is used as per training and it in good state of repair / stored correctly
  • Maintain / contribute to accurate record keeping of vehicle cleaning and other duties
  • To monitor / replenish supplies within each operational vehicle / stock room while ensuring stock rotation is in place
  • Ensure equipment is in good state of repair and report any defects / missing property
  • Ensure that cleaning equipment is clean, in good state of repair and stored correctly whilst not in use

Essential criteria:

  • GCSEs or equivalent, including English Language (Grades A-C/9-4) and 1 years’ experience within a service discipline or department such Support Services.

OR

  • Relevant vocational qualification e.g. NVQ/QCF/RQF (Level 2) and 1 year experience within a service discipline or department such Support Services.

OR

  • Worked for at least 3 years where you have gained experience within a service discipline or department such Support Services.

You also need:

  • Currently hold a Category C1 driving licence OR present evidence of attainment of a Category C1 driving licence prior to commencement of the post
  • Be willing to work shifts including evening, weekends and public holidays
  • Be flexible to work at other locations to meet operational demands

Other criteria:

  • Ability to use initiative, organise and prioritise own workload
  •  Basic numeracy skills with ability to communicate clearly and follow instructions
  • Ability to remain calm with difficult situations in a professional manner
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality in the work place
