We’re re-examining our vehicles and what a vehicle means in the emerging world of automation, connectedness, electrification and the shared economy. New ideas, new technology, and new approaches to mobility are our business. Join a team of next generation thinkers.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Brakes Engineering System Architecture Team is responsible for designing and engineering brake systems; including setting, balancing and delivering system targets with the support of the component teams to meet customer attribute targets such as Brake Pedal Feel, Deceleration and Parking performance.

This role will aim to enhance the customer experience through the design, development, measurement and balance of brakes system performances, for all Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles.

The role of the System Architect Leader is to lead a team of engineers from system and attributes team (braking performance and refinement). The role delivers the target setting (Attributes to System to Component) right through to final Engineering Sign-Off in order to meet programme specific Statements of Intent and it will have a particular focus on delivery of one or more Vehicle Architectures.

This requires having an in depth understanding of braking system and components, their effects on vehicle-level attributes and their interactions.

Energy efficiency is increasingly influencing vehicle architectures and system decisions with braking system technologies such as decoupled brakes becoming commonplace to allow regenerative braking systems to be deployed without corrupting pedal feel. These systems are precursors to the adoption of more autonomous driving features.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Work in a cross functional team to create a Braking system specification that fulfils the PALs target and legal requirements. Working with system and component areas to define and maintain cascaded target requirements in support of overall vehicle level targets (RMDV, Doors as required).
  • Support delivery of all Attribute Requirement targets by Gateway.
  • Plan and support test and development activities as required or specified in the Design Verification Plan (DVP) in time and to budget.
  • Report out programme status in relevant forums.  Lead cross functional teams in delivery of Brakes system target and braking attributes closing out issues and delivering compatible solutions. Support and maintain the Automated Issues Management System (AIMS) and track these to successful resolution.
  • Ensure DVP makes use of best practices and maximises use of cost-effective tools and techniques.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Significant experience in planning and delivering Gateway requirements.
  • Proven record of braking system experience for system and/or component/ function design – for both conventional ‘hydraulic-only’- and regenerative- braking systems.
  • Proven ability to deliver on project deadlines and demonstrate they have made a real contribution in their previous roles and should have prior experience of leading a team.
  • Previous experience of problem-solving tools e.g. Root Cause Analysis, 8 Disciplines of problem solving.
  • Knowledge of whole vehicle engineering knowledge and cross functional experience.
